To think this was a poor choice of words at the Russian Grand Prix.

Watching F1 this afternoon, there has apparently been some kind of internet/radio communications brrak down.
The F1 presenter was talking to Jenson Button after the race and said "the communications mustve been shot down", think he said it two or three times.
I know he wouldnt have meant anything by it, just a case of not thinking before he spoke but it just seemed a really bad choice of words.

Definitely shot? Not shut?

trinity0097 · 12/10/2014 18:57

Shot is a perfectly common slang word for broken.

askyfullofstars · 12/10/2014 18:59

definitely shot.

You may be overthinking this one.

DilligafMyUKIP · 12/10/2014 19:17

It's a common phrase

waithorse · 12/10/2014 19:28

Really ? Totally over thinking. Confused

hellokittymania · 12/10/2014 19:33

Off topic, but do other races have concerts? I was at Singapore Grand Prix and J-Lo performed. Was fantastic!

Youarejustwordsonascreenpeople · 12/10/2014 20:04

When F1 comes to Abu Dhabi this year we have Pharrell, Amin van Burren and The Who. There is also a set of concerts going on around the F1 week in various places.
Yasalem

Last year we had Jay-Z, Muse and Depeche Mode and the year before it was Kylie and Nickleback and I can't remember who else.

It is always a big event when F1 comes to town.

LadyLuck10 · 12/10/2014 20:05

U must be bored op.

Youarejustwordsonascreenpeople · 12/10/2014 20:06

Had to look it up and it was Eminem Smile

askyfullofstars · 12/10/2014 20:17

No not bored.
I personally havent found it offensive I just thought it was an unfortunate choice of words and now the man who said it is getting quite a bit of aggro on twitter/general social media.
I think I should have used the phrase unlucky wording rather than poor wording.
Sorry Im flu'd up and probably not explaining myself very well...

I can't begin to imagine why you even gave this a nanosecond of thought. Why did you?

steff13 · 12/10/2014 20:31

It's a very common phrase here. What made you think it was a poor choice of words, OP? What was the context that made you think it was not appropriate?

askyfullofstars · 12/10/2014 21:02

ora like I said in my second post, its not so much what he said as like I said, I know it was just unlucky/unfortunate choice of words, he is now getting a bit of a battering on twitter.
Its the reaction that I dont understand, I didnt think about what he said, more about the reaction afterwards, as I just think it was unlucky he chose that particular phrase maybe.
Again I am a bit flu'd up and not explaining myself very well.
In retrospect I shouldve gone with 'AIBU to think this person doesnt deserve the slating he is getting, for what is, after all, just an unfortunate turn of phrase'.
Im sorry I didnt put it across very well.

I'm trying to care, really I am.

rallytog1 · 12/10/2014 21:38

Can't see anything on Twitter about it. It's a weird thing for anyone to get upset about though.

smellycandles · 12/10/2014 22:03

I don't get it.

Why was it a bad choice of words? Has someone been shot?
