To be annoyed that HMRC have had the same typo for 3 years running?

Feeling smug but annoyed. Smug because I've just done my tax return early Smile and Angry because for the THIRD year running they've printed the wrong phone number on the front of the sheet.

When I've finally found another number and got through to HMRC they're incredibly helpful... and each time I've pointed out that the phone number on the front of the sheet (sent out to goodness knows how many millions of people) doesn't work.

Yet each year, there it is again. How can I get through to them that they've made a mistake?

tell the daily fail?

Because they don't want you to get in touch.

It's not all of the forms. DH's last SA that they sent (incorrectly - he's been a PAYE employee since 2009 but keeps being asked to submit a return) had the correct number on the form, because he used it to phone them AGAIN (has every year) to tell them to stop sending him Self Assessments.

Vermillion Grin so it's either a form with the wrong number or a 5 years of forms which you don't need. Ah, efficiency!

The thing is, Iggly when you do get in touch, they're so lovely and helpful. Maybe it's because they're sitting in front of a bank of phones which don't ever ring, and they're just delighted when someone figures out the right number and calls.

deakymom now that would be extreme measures.

Grin

Or... maybe it is some sort of test???

He's got written confirmation from a letter in 2010 telling him as he'd completed a full year of PAYE he no longer needs to do a return and no more will be sent.

Every single year one arrives, and when he phones they go 'Oh i'm sorry, that really shouldn't have been sent, just disregard it'. Then when no tax return is received he gets reminder letters Hmm

Moxon - mmm, maybe. Scary, huh?

I always feel so nervous filling out the forms that I round up each pound, rather then down as they tell you to do just so that I can prove I'm not trying to do them out of tax.

It's as though I can feel them watching me and saying 'well, was that train journey just for work? Hm? Was it? Didn't you pop into M&S for a pair of tights on the way into work? So wasn't it really a domestic not a work trip? Hm?'

Vermillion - I love that they don't just send out the form, but then write asking why he hasn't returned it Grin
