Evening ladies and gents.
Am I being unreasonable to expect my colleagues to do their fair share of physical graft at my workplace ?
I work in the baggage and apron
operations section at my local airport. A large portion of our job involves removing items of checked- in baggage from the carousel and
placing it on the appropriate cart for
the flight. My summer-temporary
colleagues are, by and large,
conscientious in this regard. Most of
my permanent part-time colleagues
are likewise. The problem is
approximately half a dozen of my
permanent full-time colleagues. They spend a good deal of their time in a huddle talking, laughing and drinking tea and coffee but doing very little actual work. Quite cliquey really. I
wouldn't mind the cliqueyness if the lazy twats made themselves much
more useful. They do just enough to
make it looks like they're always
busy. The ringleader is a total
buffoon. Class clown. Loudmouth.
Facetious. Has to be the centre of
attention. I don't fall for his bullshit
one ounce. Or that of his female
cohort who is at least 30 years
younger.
What really pisses me off is that several of my colleagues of all grades have noticed what goes on and that the supervisors indulge it or look the other way, rather than seeing that there is something wrong.
The other week I finally flipped and complained to our department manager. I have since complained again. I didn't bother speaking to the supervisor in question because he is a clique member and therefore part of the problem. He is also in a relationship with the aforementioned female. To cut a long story short, after a fairly heated meeting with the prime offenders and our manager, I was made to feel like the bad guy. I haven't changed my opinion and I know others support me but it seems I was the only one with the balls to speak up. Nothing has changed but I am in the classic whistleblower situation. I work hard as do others. Some people blatantly take the piss and get away with it.
Is that reasonable, unreasonable or what ?
