At the end of my tether

I have had 3 gallbladder attacks in 2 days and I have refused dinner because I'm scared of another.

I've lost my appetite, I have bags under my eyes from lack of sleep (2 trips to the hospital in the space of 16 hours) my face is pale, I am constantly nauseous and I'm generally miserable. The hospital give me pain relief which takes hours to kick in, and have insisted they can do no more.

If I have another one tonight I don't know what I will do. I have an appointment soon with a consultant to see if my gallbladder can come out. My doctor told me is it likely the consultant will put my on a diet and review me in 6 months, rather than operate.

What triggered my attack? A slice of toast with the crusts off. That's all. I am afraid to eat, I have got the shakes and I'm tired and stressed.

I am in hell :(

It might be an idea for you to post this in Health, and mention gallbladder in the title, and maybe 'afraid to eat' - this thread may not get noticed by anyone who knows anything about it. I wish I could help but I know nothing about this condition and you clearly need help.

You poor thing. This happened to my friend last week and her DH called an ambulance and they operated next day. Xxx

Cant help op but agree re health boards and changing the title. Hope you able to eat without pain and feeling sick. Sounds awful xxx

You poor thing! I had gallstones for nearly 2 years before they were diagnosed and it was so incredibly painful - I really feel for you. I didn't start throwing up with mine until a couple of days before my scheduled op - I was given some anti-emetics. My mum had them too and also didn't start throwing up until quite a late stage so it really is time to push hard for something to be done.

I used to get through attacks by getting on all fours with my bum in the air on the bed and rocking.

Thanks everyone. probably I had them for two years too before being diagnosed. Did you keep. Getting fobbed off with stomach acid tablets too?

You poor thing- I have them too though they seem to have gone quiet in the last few months... I was told drinking warm apple juice (or better, if you can bear it, apple cider vinegar) at the first twinge tends to stave the attacks off/ make them a lot more bearable. It's definitely helped. I've also found, in desperation, that sticking fingers down throat and being deliberately thoroughly sick before it gets too bad can alleviate the pain sometimes. Probably not advisable to do terribly often but when you're in that state anything's worth trying!
If things are that bad you should push for the op though. They will tell you it's major abdominal surgery, not to be taken lightly/ without exploring other options etc, all of which is true, but if you're already at the point where it's making you nauseous and toast is triggering then it needs to come out.
