Am quite prepared to be told IABU.
Popped to the loo leaving 10.5 month old DD playing with some books in the kitchen. At one end of the kitchen we have a little area, sofa, tv and a bank of GLTC Northcote storage cupboards/shelving units. Returned from the loo to DD choking on the small silver pegs that hold up the shelves.
DD all fine, think she was more shaken up with me manhandling her to remove the peg than anything but I was shocked that the pegs are so easily removable considering this furniture is marketed as storage for children.
I emailed GLTC and was told basically yes the pegs can be removed to allow for the furniture to be flexible. They go on to say that these pegs should not be easily removed if the shelf is in situ but my DD had pushed the shelf upwards and the pegs have literally fallen out (i witnessed her doing this again later on in the day and have removed the pegs and shelves).
Am I wrong to think that this is a pretty major design flaw and the pegs should really be securely fixed so that small children cannot get remove them? We have fitted cupboards in quite a lot of our bedrooms and none of them have this sort of set up, all the things that hold up the shelves take quite a bit of tugging to get them out so its not as though a solution isn't out there.
Many thanks for reading.
