To not believe a word these plumbers say anymore?

Need a not insignificant job doing. Will take about three days and cost about £2000 so not just a dripping tap.

They arrange to quote but don't turn up. Dont't return calls etc.

Eventually got someone to quote, a week later than arranged due to some excuse.

He was supposed to start today but now had the "excuse" text.

DH and I have rearranged shifts for this so am so very pissed off. Feel like telling him to shove quote.

How do these people run a business? I have had the most pathetic excuses and now don't believe any.

Because they can cancel by text it's easier to let people down now. My text back was a bit curt. DH thought I should have been more sympathetic.

Definitely agree many tradespeople I've tried to use have been useless!

My favourite was probably a plumber (yes, a plumber!) who texted at 06:00 to say sorry he wasn't coming cos he just remembered he was reading at his daughter's school that morning.

He knew he was removing radiators so that damp proof people could hack plaster off walls. On the bright side, three hours later the damp proof people called to say they weren't coming til the next day!

I was particularly annoyed about the plumber because my ex's firm put loads of work his way, so I'd hoped I'd get at least acceptable service from him!

What I have found, now that I'm dating a tradesman - who is also employed by me - is that jobs do take an unpredictable amount of time. And yes, it's annoying when he's late for me - but the trade off is when I'm not abandoned half way through a job of mine that turns out to be trickier than we thought.
BUT: he is good at balancing people and keeping them in the loop. I'm definitely more understanding of the short notice changes now I've seen the inside.

But still at just how much some f* you about!!
