He's been here an hour, only half finished one room as he's been trying to get someone to come help him since his partner cut his finger and went to the hospital before they got here (quite a deep cut so understandable).

He's got the hall, stairs, two more bedrooms and the sitting room to do. I need to go pick up kids soon, would only be gone half an hour. Would it be unreasonable to ask him to stay and finish the job while I get the kids or will he just have to leave? Not sure on their policy and he seems rather jumpy and nervous. (Won't look me in the eye/stuttering a lot when I asked about underlay etc. Not sure if he's just uncomfortable being on his own at a job with only me in the house or if perhaps he's got some form of anxiety or something so I don't want to put pressure on him to stay if he doesn't want to/company won't allow it)

Pretty I'm taking the same route as you in having a few of the rooms -dining room, sitting room, hall, landing, stairs, one double bedroom and one small bedroom - denuded of their current carpet (good Wilton that's been there 40 years), removing the broken up underlay, putting down new underlay and carpet.

I live alone so just wondered if you moved floor furniture, contents of cupboards etc? I thought of having a removal firm in to take away the those things to make it easier for the carpet layers, store them for a couple of days and bring them back. I'd still have a kitchen, toilet, bathroom and a couple of bedrooms because they've already been done.

My carpet layers are friends so I'd leave them and feel comfortable about it.

Happy I had to cram as much furniture into my tiny kitchen and bathroom as possible (one double bed, two sofas, coffee table, bedside tables and some toys fit). The carpet guy was pretty understanding about there still being stuff left though, I helped him shift the children's beds and wardrobe and chest of drawers (wardrobe and drawers were on wheels thank god) and we played move the furniture from room to room. I think if you're getting quite a few areas done they're understanding that not everything can fit into the remaining rooms so it shouldn't be a problem :) (the man was nice enough to offer to help me put the furniture back too, he looked exhausted though so I done it myself)
