To think we live in a bizarre country?

We can send the army to Africa to build a hospital to help with the Ebola crisis but a primary school in Gloucestshire can't have hot meals because there is no parking space?!

I think I need to stop listening to the news - I'm either crying or shouting at the radio!

Your OP maybe wasn't the best example, but yes, it is a sorry state of affairs in general.

wobblyweebles · 07/10/2014 15:09

It is also bizarre how determined people on here are to not get your point :-)

balancingfigure · 07/10/2014 15:29

Thanks wanttosqueezeyou - my fault for posting in aibu - never done that before! But your point

She's just pointed out the scale of the things that can be achieved in contrast to those that can't.

is exactly what I'm trying to say, I might have to get you to write my post for me next time. Grin

I think there is a lot wrong with this country. But I think it's right that they are giving money to help with this ebola crisis.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 07/10/2014 15:58

Dawns analogy was a reminder of the dreadful death toll amongst children in this crisis and not a particular reference to a car park in Britain.

I do get you op as the lower tiers of government can be petty and ridiculous but thank God we can turn things around when needed.

As I said before it's dads army mentality.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 07/10/2014 16:01

Why would the op hide the thread?

Stop being so dramatic. It's a discussion.

Good grief. Confused

UncleSue · 07/10/2014 16:25

What wanttosqueezeyou said.

Op I knew what you meant in the outset, wouldn't worry about it.
I think some people go looking for bunfights or discussions as they are sometimes referred to.

Balancing - I think possibly you might need to expand further on the "no parking space" issue.

Do you mean there is literally just not a designated parking space, or is there no car park at all? Is the delivery truck not able to stop anywhere near the vicinity of the school, or can it not even get anywhere near it?

Where do the teachers park? If the teachers are parked and are in school, can the lunch delivery truck not double-park?

I find it very hard to believe that the school meals cannot find their way into the school just because of a "parking" or "stopping" place of some sort.

How would an emergency vehicle manage, if it needed to access the school for any reason? A fire engine would have to be able to get pretty close to the building to be able to carry out its duties satisfactorily.

Just a little bit puzzled.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 07/10/2014 16:43

Is this an actual thing, with your school, or a hypothetical scenario to make a point?
(Sorry if I sound a bit dim)

nicename · 07/10/2014 16:45

I'd rather have a cheese salad than ebola. I'm funny like that.

MorrisZapp · 07/10/2014 16:46

Here in Edinburgh we have a tram project that nobody wanted, at vast and obscene cost, delivered years late and only finalised by giving the contractors bribes to complete.

I know exactly what OP means. Wilful waste and incompetence in a country that can and does perform to a world class level when it actually tries.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 07/10/2014 16:53

And I can agree with that - the Government wastes money on silly things, like the new high-speed train link from London to Birmingham. Perhaps that would have been a more sensible example to give.

I think many people would agree children to receive their lunch over a new multi-million pound train line, which shaves a measly 20 mins off a journey, over school children receiving their lunch (even though there's absolutely nothing wrong with a packed lunch).

But helping to build a hospital in Africa to help with the Ebola crisis trumps both of those.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 07/10/2014 16:55

(Sorry - typing at speed whilst preparing dinner, my second sentence is ill-constructed, repeating things unnecessarily - I did it further up too) Blush But you get my drift

balancingfigure · 07/10/2014 17:17

Evans its a school near Gloucester that was on the news because it has not been able to supply hot school meals under the new scheme. I don't know the details and there were other issues but I'm puzzled too - all your points and also currently a taxi delivers cold school meals so that must be able to access the school!

Of course its nothing like as important as the hospital but that wasn't my point!
