People buying our house want us to pay their rent - is this reasonable?

Hi,
We are leaving the country on October 30th and agreed to sell our house to a couple on condition that completion occurred on 24th October. Today they said they wanted to delay completion until 10th November unless we paid their rent (£700). On all the property documents the completion date has been set for 24th October. They have also delayed exchange, which was supposed to have happened by now and we have bent over backwards to accommodate their every whim in order to keep the sale on track. I feel completely over the barrel and I am so angry with these people! But is this normal to pay the buyers rent so they are not left paying rent and a mortgage to get the completion date originally agreed on?
Any advice very welcome!

Ugh... What a nightmare.

Glad you exchanged, I'd still report her so she's on the radar for the next time she tries to buy.

Who will be handing over the keys on completion? Can you get keys back from the agent and pass them to your solicitor to be released on completion?

maninawomansworld · 08/10/2014 16:10

Now you've exchanged you can relax. If they make any more demands or try to get access before completion you can just tell them the f*ck right off.
They won't pull out now unless they can afford to loose their deposit!

Hissy · 08/10/2014 16:53

so they wanted to charge you for their rent but move into the propertY anyway?

what a pair of scam artists! report the heck out of em!

Wow, there really are some cheeky bleeders out there, glad you got your exchange and here's hoping she gets her arse kicked by the law society for her conduct

They did, they took the time to remove all their posts thus rendering the entire thread completely useless for anyone else that needs similar advice.
Very rude when people took the time to try and help.

Perhaps they has to remove them as a complaint to the law society has been instigated and the remarks could have compromised the complaint?

If so, I expect this thread will go 'poof!' soon too.

Sleepyhoglet · 09/10/2014 19:38

Go halves?

DadDadDad · 09/10/2014 20:21

Don't worry, the MSE forum got wind and posted details of this thread on there. But they weren't happy about the perceived rudeness, I'm afraid.
