Bloody aldi (who i normslly love soo much) have just sent us a £70 parking fine for being too long in their car park Angry

We were half an hour over the 1.5 hour limit.

What happened was i did the shopping while dp took dd to a swing park ten minutes walk away. I was only 40 minutes in the shop but don't drive so couldn't drive to park and obviously had a weeks shopping so dp left car in the car park. I walked to park- lovely sunny day so we stayed a while. Totally forgot the 1.5 hour parking limit.

The problem is could have in that time walked into town.

Do we just pay up or is it worth an appeal??

I have the receipt from the shop. The irony being we were really skint on that day so did frugal aldi shop. Would have been chesper to shop in fucking waitroseHmm

The law in England and Wales has indeed changed in that they can ask you to name the driver. If that were the issue on which the matter turned you would be correct (except in Scotland).

The law has not changed in any way that would make their preposterous charges amount to anything resembling a reasonable pre-estimate of loss.

Any engagement with Parking Eye lends their story undeserved credence.

Branleuse · 06/10/2014 20:16

Tell them you did the shopping and the car wouldnt start.

gordyslovesheep · 06/10/2014 20:21

don't just ignore it OP

equally stop blaming yourself!!!! YOU don't drive, YOU where trying to hurry him up, YOU didn't do anything wrong!

Iloveonionchutney · 06/10/2014 20:26

I had this for ten minutes over! I never paid got one more letter but then never heard again. I wouldn't pay it, it's not enforceable from parking eye.

Greenrug85 · 06/10/2014 20:38

Yabu.

Say after you went off to the park, the car park became full, what if a shopper(s) turned up and couldn't park up because of people going off doing similar things to you?

Aldi may lose out on customers because of people overstaying on the carpark. Shoppers have to wait, or go elsewhere.

Hmm
zippey · 07/10/2014 14:42

YANBU - don't give money to these criminals. Just ignore.

shitatusernames · 07/10/2014 19:20

We have just appealed to them through their website, this was after Dh was told to ignore, I went on money saving experts and they say do not ignore now.

The car in the picture on the letter is not even the same make as ours, it's a susuki, and we were apparently in London, we live an hour away, anyway, we've found another car on the dvla with pretty much the same reg plate apart from 1 letter, looks like they've read it wrong and we've got a ticket we shouldn't have. So if they get in touch with us again, we'll have fun in court Grin

samsam123 · 07/10/2014 19:25

they have a 1.5 hour limit for a reason if you want to go to the swings park near them aand leave the shop parking spaces for the shoppers PAY UP

camelmonkey · 07/10/2014 19:55

Same thing happened to us in Aldi. Was it run by Eurocarparks? it is unenforceable but there is a number you can call and Aldi will get the ticket removed as it is bad for business. Look on the Pepipoo forum for advice.

LividofLondon · 07/10/2014 22:28

Do NOT ignore it! The law changed on 1st October 2012, and now ignoring it will not make it go away! This flowchart tells you what you need to do if you get an "invoice".

BreconBeBuggered · 07/10/2014 23:28

Hang on, what? The vehicle has to be registered in England or Wales? What's that about? Does it mean currently, or at the point of original purchase?

Our local Morrisons recently put their parking 'management' into the hands of Parking Eye. Locals were concerned about rules such as not returning within 3 hours, but the store very publicly assured customers that genuine shoppers would not be penalised, whether they were carers doing multiple shopping trips on behalf of clients or locals nipping back down the hill for a forgotten box of cornflakes. It'll be interesting to see how the new rules are applied.

TheMikkster · 25/06/2018 12:55

Don't pay it!

Here’s what happened to us. I appealed to Parking Eye and they turned us down. Messages on MoneySavingExpert.com and MumsNet advised me Not to use their lengthy POPLA appeals service but to contact Aldi Customer Services direct ([email protected]) I did and they have cancelled the charge. Here’s what I wrote:

I have been sent a parking charge by Parking Eye Charge Notice 553263/314335.

On 25 May 2018 I parked in Aldi, Leek and bought some items. My husband and were on a long and tiring trip from our home in Bristol to family in New Mills, Derbyshire. I have mobility problems. We did not know there was a terminal system in the Aldi car park as our local Aldi in Bristol (in which we shop 3-4 times a week) does not have such a system. We have never overstayed in our Bristol Aldi. I parked for less than an hour in Leek.

As a regular customer I am sure Aldi does not want to alienate its customers. Surely the parking system is there to deter persistent offenders. I am asking you to rescind the charge as it was an honest mistake.

Kind regards
