AIBU to think that if men where in the higher percentage of rape victims, the laws, prosecution and prevention tactics for rape would be a lot different?

I believe all perpetrators of rape are men as it is defined as non-consensual penetration of vagina, anus or mouth using a penis. There are other very serious forms of sexual assault that can be perpetrated by women. I think the fact that this is a crime that only men can be prosecuted for rape is more significant in terms of the lack of urgency in dealing with the woeful reporting and conviction rates than the fact that victims are overwhelmingly female. Yes men are more likely to be victims of other types of violent crimes but they are also much more likely to be perpetrators of those violent crimes too. The crime of rape is pretty unique in that all perpetrators are men and most victims are women.

Just noticed unnecessary use of the word "rape" in my third sentence. Grr

A guy was raped a couple of days ago in my area, it's front page news, the paper also contains reference to a major reinvestigation of cases involving female victims due to errors by the police but this is on page ten!! The same paper ran a headline a few years ago of 'teen rape victim was a boy!!'

It's a sad fact that male rape is given a higher profile because it is more shocking.

I'm not sure this is true male victims make up the majority of violent assaults and murder. There isn't any massive drive that you are thinking would happen.

some statistics here such as
In 2011/12, as in previous years, more than two-thirds of homicide victims (68%) were male.
