Parking! Grrrrrr

Bought our lovely new house a couple of months ago. It has two very clearly marked parking spaces with our number on. Come home a minute ago and someone has parked in one of them. When there are visitor spaces or spaces on the raid. Why would you do that?!?!?

Ooo I love a good parking thread. What're you going to do OP?

angelos02 · 06/10/2014 11:08

Block them in.

myotherusernameisbetter · 06/10/2014 11:09

Cos people are basically all entitled cunts dressed up to look like normal folk. :D

Vitalstatistix · 06/10/2014 11:11

Leave a nice friendly note saying sorry if the bay markings are not clear, but the space they are in is a private space owned by your house and you need to use it so please keep marked bays clear in future, there are visitor spaces at such and such a location, if the road has no space, best wishes, many thanks, etc etc ?

EatDessertFirst · 06/10/2014 11:12

Penguin bollards. No question.

For now, block them in and await reaction.

teacher54321 · 06/10/2014 11:14

I can't block them in without blocking the road and it is pissing it down with rain. I've complained to customer services (we live in a new build
Estate and there are lots of builders around) so I'll go out and check in a minute.

We get this a lot at our workplace. Business centre with multiple businesses, all with clearly marked places. For various reasons, ours are sometimes empty, but often needed later in the day. When my boss' space is taken, he just blocks someone in (with his very large car) and when they come and ask him to move, he tells them he will move when he is ready (sometimes several hours later).

teacher54321 · 06/10/2014 11:16

I would leave a note but I think it would dissolve in the rain!

I just do not understand people. I would never park in a marked space.

Just for the sake of argument, why do people get to have reserved spaces on a public road? We all pay our taxes to upkeep the roads.
I know how it feels to not be able to park in front of your own house. I live close to a school and some shops. I don't get annoyed though because I don't own the bit of road in front of my house. It's there for everyone.

teacher54321 · 06/10/2014 12:21

It's off road parking-it's on the deeds of our house. It's not on the road at all.

OP posts:
Picturesinthefirelight · 06/10/2014 12:21

I assume (as a new build) that it is not a public road but a private road or unadopted road, alternatively the land registry feeds to each house includes a set back marked bay that was part of the sale.

polarpercy · 06/10/2014 12:34

But Lem they're not always public roads. I live on a private and unadopted road, which means the council don't pay a penny for it's upkeep. When the council tried to use our road for parking for a council event there was uproar from the residents.

OddFodd · 06/10/2014 12:36

You can't reserve a space on a public road lem - even a disabled person who has a disabled space in front of their house can't reserve that space just for them

teacher54321 · 06/10/2014 12:38

Actually now you mention it I think it is an unadopted road-we have to pay a £250 a year management fee for verge cutting/road maintenance etc on top of our council tax. Irrespective of that-I'm pissed off someone was in my space! However I'm putting ds for a nap I a minut so will check if it has gone then!

Sometimes people make genuine mistakes.
I know of a workman that was working in a flat number 20 he parked in the space across the road marked 20, even though there were visitor spaces he knew the person in the flat did not drive so parked there rather than taking a visitor space.
When he went to the van later to go and pick up some stuff, he a really dirty look from a guy across the road who continued to stare at him, when he came back there was a car in the no 20 space, he parked up in a visitor bay.
Later on he saw the guy going into a house, number 20- it clicked why he was getting the dirty looks, the no 20 space was not for the flat across the road but a house a little way down.

lem73 · 06/10/2014 12:48

Ok understood now. That's frustrating. I have a feeling that issue is going to give you a bit of grief.

teacher54321 · 06/10/2014 12:50

Am now googling bollards! They've moved now so I reckon it was one of the builders. Smile

Perhaps you should take a pic of any cars which do it. If you find repeat offenders you may be able to get the police to do something.

wifeandstepmum · 06/10/2014 14:28

Definitely penguin bollards. Every time.
