to be [shock] that MN has 'Charlotte' as one of its baby names for the day... for a boy??

Er, it's a girl's name, surely? The 'lotte' part is a diminutive, suggesting feminine... it's the girls' version of Charles! I'll get flamed for making gender distinctions here, but would you call your son Emma? Jane? Sophie?
Thought not.

I call my dd 'Bernard' on a regular basis. Grin

manicinsomniac · 06/10/2014 00:02

It's probably just a mistake

ArsenicFaceCream · 06/10/2014 00:09

Oh here we go...

This is going to be Jaydon all over again. Lairy sneeriness and snobbery.

DS1 is called Charlotte OP and DS2 is called Emmeline.

Got a problem with that?

PhaedraIsMyName · 06/10/2014 01:05

What's snobbish or sneery about asking this?

There are some English names which have become unisex (Evelyn, Hilary, Lindsay/Lindsay, Terry, Ashley, Francis/Frances, Jamie). I've never heard of Charlotte being anything other than a female name.

For me it's a name I'd associate with female members of the Royal family. There were several queens and princesses of that name.

ArsenicFaceCream · 06/10/2014 01:16

Joking Phaedra Hmm

MissBlennerhasset · 06/10/2014 03:32

You're soooo mainstream, OP.

KikitheKitKat · 06/10/2014 09:50

That's exactly what my daughter Gary just said.

theparadoxofourage · 06/10/2014 09:53

Tbf Arsenic I was feeling genuinely sorry for your sons and I'm pretty sarcastic IRL, sometimes things don't translate to the written word;)

Showy · 06/10/2014 09:56

ARF at people thinking Arsenic is serious.

ShadowStar · 06/10/2014 09:58

I expect it's a mistake.

I've never heard of Charlotte being used for a boy, unlike some of the examples given by Phaedra

atticusclaw · 06/10/2014 10:00

Surely its ok as long as you spell it "sharlut"?

Better that way anyway. You need your son to have a unique name that the kidz can spell.

moxon · 06/10/2014 10:02

I'd say Charlotte is a unisex name. Like Balonz.

gordyslovesheep · 06/10/2014 10:12

Blimey my three girls are dave, David and davey I guess people are going to get snotty about that now Hmm

bikermouse1 · 06/10/2014 10:45

Now I've got an ear worm.....a boy named Sue....Johhny Cash, perhaps!

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 06/10/2014 10:49

AR a thread that contains both my name and both of my dds.

To be honest the older I get the less amazed I am at the ridiculousness of people's name choice.

Jamie Oliver being the prize winner I think Hmm

Booboostoo · 06/10/2014 11:26

Greek bureaucracy insisted we spell DD's name Lili Harlot but we managed to dodge that bullet!

Vintagejazz · 06/10/2014 12:18

My nephew is called Charlotte. Personally I think his parents are trying too hard...

gordyslovesheep · 06/10/2014 12:26

And in the male version the lotte is pronounced ie ... Hth

moxon · 06/10/2014 12:49

youthecat "I had three sisters and they were called Donald, Eric and Basil" Grin

DownByTheBay · 06/10/2014 13:12

In the country I live in Noa (pn Noah) is a very popular girls name. People would be HmmShock and Confused if they heard of a boy called Noah.
