Do you mean spoken or written?

MidniteScribbler · 05/10/2014 06:48

I think adults who wear a onesie have bigger issues than their spelling.

isitsnowingyet · 05/10/2014 07:15

Quite

NormaStits · 05/10/2014 08:14

It's treated like a magic e word. When you add a suffix that starts with a vowel, you drop the e. When you add a suffix that starts with a consonant you keep the e.

Eg:
place + ing = placing
place + ment = placement

'One' isn't truly a magic e word but it looks like one so I think we just apply the rule to it for that reason.

I read 'onsie' with a hard 'o' because there's no vowel to soften it.

Non-onesie-wearer here, they're far too sweaty.

hormonalandneedingcheese · 05/10/2014 10:06

I think there are certain words that grate when spoken wrongly or even just differently. My DH pronounces patronising as 'patron-ising' putting the implication on patron. Really pisses me off, it's 'patronising' all on one tone level.

On a onesie note, there's now a twosie too isn't there? Are all onesies just one piece with a zip or do some have butt flaps for easy peeing?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 05/10/2014 10:13

Since we are onto bad spelling, my friend spelling, "Lying" and "Dying" "Lieng" and Dieng"

Really winds me up.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 05/10/2014 10:14

*spells

SistersOfPercy · 05/10/2014 10:19

It annoys me more that people have decided to change the name altogether. It's not a 'Onesie' its a 'Kigurumi' or 'kigu'. They started out as Japanese animal costumes, became reasonably popular over here for festivals and were then seized upon and renamed.

DomiKatetrix · 05/10/2014 10:22

They should go back to school or collage Wink

Fuck me, just writing it is annoying.

CatsCantTwerk · 05/10/2014 10:26

My dd came home from shopping yesterday with a Nighty Onesie, I have never seen one before and she is well impressed with it, I have just been looking online to see if I can find one but to no joy.

Castlemilk · 05/10/2014 12:39

I've seen it spelled wunzi. A whole new level of horror.

Gird your loins, OP.

Icimoi · 05/10/2014 14:16

Isn't a Nighty Onesie and adult-sized babygro?

MokunMokun · 05/10/2014 14:20

Is it nighty or nightie?

I think MidniteScribbler may have hit the nail on its head.

CatsCantTwerk · 05/10/2014 14:28

It is a 'Nightshirt' I can not find one online and can not prize it off dd to take a pic so here is a pic of the tag. It is basically a huge long sleeved, fleece, down to the knees, with mouse ears hood and a huge pocket at the front.

I have a strappy pj onesie. A tracksuity type onesie and 2 over pj ones. One with feet and one without. I assume they are over pj ones as when I've tried to sleep in them I've actually cooked. And btw midnight I don't have 'problems'

LST · 05/10/2014 15:43

midnite and 'issues' sorry.

midgetgem2211 · 05/10/2014 15:53

Catscanttwerk you can get them in primark in adult sizes.

HappyAgainOneDay · 08/10/2014 16:27

There was a time when there was no central heating (and that's not so long ago) and, in Dickensian times, people went to bed wearing a nightshirt (men), night hats and bedsocks,

I wear bedsocks and they save on heating water for hot water bottles - a Godsend.

For the last 20 years and thanks to my late DH I have worn nothing in bed

A onesie is just another commercialised fashion trend. I saw my step-granddaughter in one. I complimented her but really thought it was dreadful.

youareallbonkers · 08/10/2014 16:46

One of my friends uses the term onesie instead of selfie :-) but how can someone say "onsie" unless you mean they are pronouncing it "on zee"?
