To think that jury service selection isn't random at all

I have just received a letter summoning me for jury service. I'm really looking forward to it. They will cover wages and travel, and also feed you for the days your there. I spent three weeks on a trial a few years ago and found it really interesting.

A few of the other jurors had been picked before. Has anyone else been picked multiple times?

I do agree it doesn't cover your earnings. They really need to look at this as no-one should be out of pocket for something that they are summoned to do.

I've been selected 3 times. I think you're more likely to be picked once you're in the system.

I did it and loved it, got paid from work and expenses from court. Sat and read for hours - bliss! Also wasn't a really horrific case so it was fine.

DH would love to do it but never been picked.

DF did a big one on child abuse. Seriously unpleasant.

I did it a few years ago and was bored to tears . Say on one case and it was horrendous deciding whether I believed the defendant ‘without even the faintest doubt’- it’s those words, said by the judge, which made it hard as I always have doubts about my decisions!! Fortunately the second case was due to overrun and I wa due on holiday that weekend (2nd wk of service) so they let me go.

You don’t get full wages btw- Only a portion and they don’t ‘feed’ you- just give you a daily allowance of about £3.50 to use on the very overpriced canteen where a coffee cost £1,20 😟
Won’t do it again if I can get out of it

I have never been called but have family members who have. Even those with young babies. I think I would try to get out of it as I can only just cope with what's on my plate at the moment and have severe anxiety.
