To think that sending softcore porn in a marketing email to woo new professional clients is not the best idea?

I received this picture of a woman's bikini-clad pubic region in my work email inbox today - I'm a financial services professional. Or a disembodied fanjo, as I like to refer to myself when I find myself getting a little too big for my professional boots Hmm

The really sad thing is, it probably works on some people. I emailed them to complan but I can hear the eye-rolling and accusations of 'prude' from here...

As it happens, being bisexual I enjoy a fanjo as much as the next person Grin but only when it's a) attached to a woman with thoughts and feelings rather than being used to sell something and b)not popping up in my work email inbox before I've finished my first coffee of the day!

They are aware that the bikini bridge fiasco was thought up by internet trolls?

And those same trolls were then responsible for leaking the celeb nudes?

And that society was, in general, outraged?

I'd point those three facts out to them, and then I'd remind them that for most corporations, their email address would now be blacklisted as unsuitable. Mine definitely would have blocked that, and DP's too.

Idiots.

Phalenopsis · 02/10/2014 15:51

A bikini bridge apparently is where a woman's hip bones protrude so that the bikini looks like a bridge from one hip to the other. I don't think 'accessible' was the best word.

Anyway, it's gratuitous shit.

Boleh · 02/10/2014 15:53

That's truely dreadful, not just the picture and the slogan making no sense but even the font looks like like it should belong to either a make up company or an ice cream manafacturer!

PurpleWithRed · 02/10/2014 15:54

Good grief. Well, they'd be off my list of potential suppliers pdq - if they're that stupid with their marketing god knows what they'd do with my money!

BaffledSomeMore · 02/10/2014 15:54

It looks like an advert for a low rent 80s club night.

And the exclamation marks give me the rage.

phantomnamechanger · 02/10/2014 15:55

is there any chance this was sent out by someone "accidentally" ie sent the wrong one, something they had just been messing about with in the office??
Or that this was sent by a disgruntled employee on their last day or something?

I CANNOT fathom how this would get passed as a good idea!!
And this is why the heforshe campaign is so important. For men as well as women to get on board and say THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE

HazleNutt · 02/10/2014 15:55

I thought it was an ad for sunbeds..

JohnFarleysRuskin · 02/10/2014 15:57

My God. That it too bizarre for words.

Are people really that thick?!

Do send it to everydaysexism.

jonicomelately · 02/10/2014 15:59

Horribly sexist and very tacky. A company to steer very well clear of IMO.

KnitFastDieWarm · 02/10/2014 16:02

'Accessible' has a horrible tone to it as well, doesn't it? Sad

I don't really want to work with a company who consider me to be 'accessible' because I'm wearing a bikini.

cherrybombxo · 02/10/2014 16:03

Phalenopsis That is what a bikini bridge is but, as Infinity says, it's a concept that was thought up by trolls to make women obsess about something other than "thigh gaps". It was a prank that has been taken seriously.

KnitFastDieWarm · 02/10/2014 16:03

disclaimer - am not wearing a bikini at the very moment, that would be a little odd to say the least Grin

OP posts:
AdamLambsbreath · 02/10/2014 16:04

Oooooh that's nasty.

AdamLambsbreath · 02/10/2014 16:05

And yes, 'accessible' is repulsively sleazy.

Bulbasaur · 02/10/2014 16:07

This is why you don't try to use internet memes to stay relevant.

Sexism aside, they turned a stupid meme into a dad joke. (Dad jokes) Hmm

Phalenopsis · 02/10/2014 16:09

cherrybombxo - right. Makes it even more shit then.

KnitFastDieWarm · 02/10/2014 16:10

It's so bad on so many levels isn't it?

  1. it's sexist and objectifying
  2. it's got a deeply unpleasant predatory/voyeuristic/'I couldn't help myself she was wearing a bikini' tone to it
  3. it's astonishingly tone-deaf in terms of the audience it's aimed at
  4. it looks like shit and it doesn't even make sense
  5. sexism aside, it's not clever, current or funny because the meme is so dated

etc, etc

Do you recall when edeus launched and had penthouse pets at the original launch OP?

They only invited male advisors as far as I am aware... We ladies were invited to the savoy a week later

FS is sadly still very male dominated ....

LurkingHusband · 02/10/2014 16:15

Speaking as a man, it doesn't say much for their opinion of men either ...

MissBlennerhasset · 02/10/2014 16:20

Golden Tree Financial Services.

(just noticed no one has named and shamed, in case anyone's googling them).

specialsubject · 02/10/2014 16:21

very seventies, except the woman is shaved bald so that's an anachronism. Compliment them on their seventies pastiche but criticise their poor research.

babykonitsway · 02/10/2014 16:21

Jesus, this is ridiculous. At every level of sign off of this ad, not ONE person had the brains to suggest it may offend some people!?

I'm no prude, I like dirty banter, and all the rest of it, but this from a professional organisation is ridiculous. Could be a Veet avert.

Bulbasaur · 02/10/2014 16:21

Clicked their site. They have a superman shirt rip with their logo. It's like watching an old dude trying to speak slang to younger kids. Funny, but very cringe worthy.

They're a lost cause.

I'd just forget you saw the ad and move on OP.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 02/10/2014 16:28

It's sad - they all look nice, normal people. I can't believe one of them didn't think - "um, is this a great way to advertise?"

KnitFastDieWarm · 02/10/2014 16:31

I know! It's not just women who might do a double take at this - normal (non-misogynist) men who take offence at the idea that they'll go 'ooh, a naked lady! I must hire THAT company!', people with strong religious beliefs, people who've been assaulted in the past, even - it's so astonishingly stupid it beggars belief
