To think that footballers should

pay more attention to the little kids who get to escort them onto the pitch before Premier League matches.

Apart from holding their hands as they walk onto the pitch, they are largely ignored.

Would it kill them to exchange a few words and make an effort? I'd be wanting a hug if it were me Grin

Well, to be fair, they are about to play a game, under immense scrutiny and pressure. They may well be focussing on that.

Personally I think it's daft to inflict the kids upon them at such a time although my dd enjoyed her experience of accompanying cricketers out in a similar fashion, immensely. She was, however, in Yr 6 and with a load of her class mates and able to enjoy the day with them even if the players didn't chat much

I'm pretty sure they get to meet them in the dressing room before the match and can chat then. Players have a match to focus on when walking out on the pitch.

YABU

A) they are under huge pressure b) they do often chat to them, and you don't know what's happened before they come out on the pitch

Pea84. Unfortunately they don't generally get to meet the players before the game.

Generally, the mascots/player escorts wait in the tunnel for the players to come out and line up. At some clubs the kids get to watch the players doing their warm up before the match and they then get to give them a high-five as they walk back down the tunnel.

My DS did this when he was 6 for a Man City v Liverpool game and when I asked him if Joe Hart spoke to him, he said he didn't. When I got a copy of the official photo's, there was one that clearly showed them talking. My DS 'then' remembered that Joe Hart asked him his name and asked him which team he played for and where he played.

Fair play to Joe Hart as when we bumped into him at the team hotel for the friendly match in Rio, he remembered my DS and had a quick chat and a photo with him.

He was also a player escort for England v Ecuador in Miami last summer and again he didn't meet the players until they came into the tunnel. James Milner did speak to him to congratulate him on singing the National Anthem so well.

Some players are really good with kids, others are bloody useless. Another City player (who I won't name) completely blanked the kids and refused to high-five any of them. He was a dick.
