Went to one where they had sweets (like penny sweets, Haribo etc) and lottery scratch cards as favours, party bags for the kids.

We weren't very original (but perhaps more so ten years ago) and had Love Hearts as wedding favours and cameras on the table. Bubbles are always an easy thing for little kids.

I wouldn't go too OTT- as long as the guests are fed and watered and there isn't too much hanging around job's a good'un.

HereComesYourMam · 01/10/2014 18:05

We put a bag of Lego on each table (along with some googly eye stickers) and challenged them to make a creature, with a prize for the best one. I'll never forget seeing all their finished creations - was so amazed that everyone got so into it (and not just the children)!

Also did the polaroid guest book thing, and provided stickers to decorate them with too.

My DH is an everton fan so favours were Everton mints, meant I could include his hobbies and interests without the wedding screaming football.

RenterNomad · 01/10/2014 18:10

Another thing: the more personalised the favours, the harder (emotionally) it will be for your guests to declutter them in the future!

ChubbyKitty · 01/10/2014 18:24

The 5 children coming are getting their own favours with a colouring book, crayons, yoyo, bubbles and a small stuffed animal.

My centrepieces are made from bathroom tumblers from wilkosWink

And our order of service is a little magazine type thing that I've made on publisher with photos of us and the story of how we met etc. and a bit about the bridesmaids and groomsmen, and also a map and the address and details of parking for the reception venue.

We're having disposable cameras on the tables so we can get some silly pictures.

And a picnmix. DPs idea, he loves sweets. Another couple we know are having one too so I'm a bit worried we'll look like we're copying but it's what he wants and it's his day too, and who can say no to free sweets?Grin

ChubbyKitty · 01/10/2014 18:25

Oh and our favours are D20s. It's quite personal to us so hopefully they'll go down well.

Free bar.
Photo booth with props is always a good thing.
Useful or edible favours not useless junk to carry around.

Trills · 01/10/2014 19:42

The last wedding I went to had postcards to write to the bride and groom, instead of a guestbook - better because it wasn't just one big object to hand around.

Trills · 01/10/2014 19:44

I have never planted flower seeds given as a wedding favour.

I was once quite pissed off when the favours were flower seeds for the ladies and miniature whisky for the men.

Well, not very pissed off, I was at a wedding and having a good time and didn't NEED the whisky, but I'd have preferred not to have any more gender stereotyping thrown at me than necessary.

FindoGask · 01/10/2014 19:48

A free bar! Thanks to my dad. People had travelled a long way and it was great that they didn't have to pay for their drinks all night too.

StillSquirrelling · 01/10/2014 20:39

Trills - I have always planted the seeds we've received as favours. Most of them have been wildflower seeds, which are usually annuals, so I've been happy to sow them in my garden each year. When we did our lavender seed favours, men and women received the same.

We also had a free bar - which included a keg of beer from the local (and beloved) brewery. It was set up in the garden shed (we had our reception in the in-laws' garden) and went down really well. Most of our guests were staying in the same hotel as us - a few miles from the village, in the local town. We provided a coach to transport us all there after the wedding reception. It almost went horribly wrong though, as the coach company went bust a few weeks before the wedding! It ended up fine though, thankfully!

bonzo77 · 01/10/2014 21:05

no favours. did have a free bar.

Organised and paid for transport (old Routemasters) from the synagogue to the reception venue, with cava for all passengers. Had someone at the venue to organise taxis for everyone who wanted one at the end of the night (we did not pay for the taxis though).

Glitterandglue · 01/10/2014 23:49

At my cousin's wedding they had 'dance floor rules' put up on a board (things like 'you must attempt The Worm, The Electric Slide etc, dance-offs are encouraged); packets of Lego for everyone; a personally chosen glass/mug/cup for each guest (sourced from charity shops, antique fairs etc) and everyone had to find their own; speech bubble signs on sticks for people to use during photos (some with things like 'I'm with stupid', others in-jokes and questions or quotes from films).

It was also held in a wood so we decorated it ourselves with tons of different things strung from trees, a handmade 'chandelier' (made of paper birds, paper flowers, wicker wreaths etc) and massive paper pompoms.

Littleroobe · 02/10/2014 00:13

My favours were mini bottles of whiskey for the men. Well there were plenty of them left at the end of the night just they were empty Grin

Honeybear30 · 02/10/2014 00:24

There are so many great things on this thread! My best little extra was a family tree that I put together but I did it using wedding photographs. Only went back to our grandparents but people really enjoyed looking at the pictures, I added the date of the wedding to each photo and it was lovely to see our family on their special days as well. I tried to use the classic 'in the archway' picture for everyone so it looked comparable. Worked really well.

Purplecircle · 02/10/2014 00:33

Engagement shoot photo in a large frame with small mount so guests signed it

Loved photo booth at another wedding.

Labels on favours served as place cards

Hatetidyingthehouse · 02/10/2014 00:57

Candle bags for outside

danker126 · 02/10/2014 01:20

I am absolutely loving this thread giving me soooo many ideas. Im really struggling to find a venue so have decided to plan all these things just now and buy it all in so there is no need to worry then. Going to view another venue in a few weeks :) im going to sit down tomorrow with h2b and pick out the ideas we like! Thank you so much everyone!!! X
