To think that a well known organisation should have better manners?

I have to be a bit vague with details...basically just over 2 weeks ago I was invited to pitch an idea at a very well known organisation. It's something creative.

They ASKED ME and I went right out of my way (traveled to London and took time off my work) to go and meet with them.

It went well I thought....but I've heard feck all. I sent a polite email on Friday saying I'd enjoyed the meeting and blah blah. Got an out of office thing back....said she'd be back on Monday.

Still heard nothing.

I have had to do with similar organisations in my past working life and I know how these things work. They SHOULD write to me or email me to say "Lovely meeeting you, but no thanks" or "Lovely meeting you, lets meet again to discuss further."

But NOTHING!

Should I forget it? It's annoying me now. I don't know where I AM with the project!

give them a blooming chance! its only Monday now, wait and see a few days then contact them again.

I call it ghosting when clients don't get back to me.

Generally, it's an avoidance thing, be it telling you no, or not wanting to pay.

I'd just assume it's a no for now and if something comes up, they'll probably let you know.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 29/09/2014 21:12

SSd it's been since the 11th! That's more than 2 weeks. In my industry this is ample to give feedback for a pitch! Normally it would be within 1 week.

Bulb they're too big to do avoidance iykwim. They wouldn't care enough....but they're too respected NOT to get back to me....so I'm a bit Confused

"Got an out of office thing back....said she'd be back on Monday."

Maybe she went on holiday right after your meeting? 2 weeks off, first day back today, drowning in emails...

You never know :)

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 29/09/2014 22:07

Well how very dare she!? Grin

Ok, so if she has been out then I suspect she has spent most of today catching up on emails and in meetings - it might be that other agencies are still pitching so they haven't made a decision yet - I know it's frustrating but try and understand that they are probably just really busy rather than intentionally ignoring you

Awks · 29/09/2014 22:44

when you pitch should you ask when you will hear/what next steps are otherwise you can just be suiting in limbo?

ssd · 30/09/2014 08:00

op, what I meant was she seems to be out the office, maybe on holiday? so she wont be able to answer you till Monday....sorry for the confusion, hope you get a positive answer soon x

Just tagging on to agree with Awks, it would be good to include talk about next steps S part of your pitch , so you can all agree when you can expect to hear from them. Then, if you haven't heard, its natural to follow up and you know who to ask whether they need more time...

I got a summer job by following up like this. When i chased them they said that they were drowning in applications and could process them all. bingo, that was my summer job sorted. HTH,

I've known loads of big companies do avoidance -- and to big agencies too. If I were you I'd mentally write them off and then (hopefully) get a nice surprise when they get back to you with a contract.

FWIW I don't do free creative pitches any more. If they want ideas, they can pay for them -- and then I don't get worked up if they don't get back to me.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 30/09/2014 09:50

I did ask about next steps and she said in late October I'd be expected to come up with a solid example of my work (I'm being evasive deliberately here as details would out me) but that's all she said. I could do with knowing so I could hone my work! I haven't checked my inbox yet. Will be doing so ALL DAY. Grin

If they are public sector/charity then they just might be a bit slow at things like replying to emails and giving you the content you fecking need to write the copy

Phone her first thing tomorrow (Wed) - don't email again.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 30/09/2014 10:13

They are a charitable organisation....but one with LOADS of celeb backers. Not poor and under-staffed....I want to go down there and bang on her door! Grin

I recently had very similar experience - small but very well-known organisation - was composing outraged emails in my head, and imagining starting a website where we can all go and name and shame the insanely rude organisations which treat people this poorly - which luckily I did not send/set up, as it turned out there had been death in relevant person's family.

I always discuss next steps in pitch, doesn't mean people stick to them.

Hope they get back to you.
