Nice shopworkers

I went into a small pet shop today and (stupidly) bought 15 kg of bird seed. The man put each 5 kg bag into a carrier bag and, when I commented on how heavy the first bag was (remember I broke an arm earlier this year so am wary of weights), he asked if I had a car. It was about 200 yards down the road. He picked up two 5 kg carrier bags, left the shop and carried them to my car. How many shop workers would do that these days?

It's not a rural place but not a town centre either. It's more of a suburb with a few shops.

I'm a sop worker and I do that. Smile

I'm also a shop worker...

I nipped into the co-op the other evening to pick up some wine and chocs for a friend and the assistant was so helpful and friendly I ended up wanting to give her the chocs!!

It's lovely that you experienced a great assistant today but I think that actually a lot of shop workers would have done the same.

I work in a convenience store on a housing estate. The staff in my shop bend over backwards to help customers whenever we can. We carry heavy things to cars, we deliver papers to disabled/elderly customers, I've even made a cup of tea and had a chat with a recently bereaved regular. Luckily my manager is happy for these things to go on, I should imagine some bigger stores would not even think about doing them.

Smaller shops will always go the extra mile I find.

victory my shop is a co-op too, we're clearly an amazing bunch. WinkGrin

I think a nice shop worker makes all the difference. There's a lovely one in our local boots store, she always makes cheery conversation with our small DC and let's them help her put things in the bag. She's sweet, it really encourages me back into the store. Same with the manager in our local Holland&Barrett, in fact all the staff in there are happy and friendly.

The helpful and kind ones can really brighten up your day and make you remember that particular store and want to go back. It's so important stores have staff like this. I don't know if they're just generally happy people or maybe management treats them well and doesn't put too much pressure on them. I don't know but it does put me off going to a store when I've encountered a grumpy or otherwise rude staff member.

I only frequent stores where the staff are nice. If they're really nice I go out of my way to go there often.

I think most people are lovely though.

I use small independents in my local town (butcher, cobbler, health food store) and the staff are really nice. They help with the door when I have the buggy and often stop for a chat with dd. dd loves the butcher so much we have to go in just to show him whatever treasure she's found today even when we don't need meat!!
