To get annoyed at the "Am I pregnant?" Threads?

WigWagWoggleBoggle · 29/09/2014 04:53

I get that people get excited and what not. But how can you expect strangers to know if your pregnant or not? If you really think your pregnant just take a flippin test!!

Maybe I am being unreasonable but it just winds me up. Take a test if you think you are!

Indyref threads annoyed me. I hid them and moved on.

WigWagWoggleBoggle · 29/09/2014 05:11

Whats Indyref stand for?

OP posts:
Bulbasaur · 29/09/2014 05:17

The Independent (Indy) Referendum (Ref) when Scotland was gearing up to vote about whether they'd remain part of the UK or not.

It's a terrible abbreviation. I blame twitter hashtags.

stripedtortoise · 29/09/2014 05:23

Yes! Just take a flipping test!

Likewise with 'I had a scan today and the sonographer said it's definitely a girl but I'm not convinced. What do you all think?

MokunMokun · 29/09/2014 05:30

TTC does send people a little loopy.

I also think just take a damn test. "Symptoms" really don't mean anything.

Just take the test and then you can stress about whether it is too early to test or perhaps you drank too much water at lunch so your wee was too dilute or maybe the test was broken as you left it near the radiator too long or maybe...

WigWagWoggleBoggle · 29/09/2014 05:37

I've seen the IndyRef a few times and wondered what it meant. Thanks!

Yup striped how would people know just from looking at a picture?

Aw I know it does send people a bit mad but c'mon people! Pee on the stick!

OP posts:
LizLimone · 29/09/2014 05:45

Yep, I always skip over those threads. I just don't get it. Just take a home test and be done with it!

Ok, the 2 week wait is a unique form of torture when you're TTC but there's no way round it! You just have to take the test to know for sure.

idloveacocktail · 29/09/2014 06:33

Take a damn test!

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 29/09/2014 06:43

I usually like POAS threads! Smile

I suppose with something like that people often either really want to be pregnant or really don't want to be pregnant which can make them scared of testing/unwilling to trust an hpt.

scaevola · 29/09/2014 06:47

As wondering if it might be worth having a "sticks and scans" topic?

Then 'pregnancy' won't be stuffed with such thread, and it's easily hidden for those who don't like it or looked at by those who love it.

(Might need willingness from MNHQ to move threads that really should be in there rapidly, or it'll never catch on. Plus an explanation of it in PG topic rubric to encourage people to use it),

Stripylikeatiger · 29/09/2014 06:51

I quite like poas threads, the threads which irritate me are the "this is my 12 week scan, boy or girl?" I don't see the need to guess what sex your fetus is when it is so undeveloped that it doesn't have genitalia yet. I just ignore those threads, obviously some people enjoy them!

SaltySeaBird · 29/09/2014 06:52

That's a good idea scaevola.

I don't mind threads where the OP has POAS but is a bit confused about something. I'm less keen on the ones where people haven't done a test. It feels attention seeking but then maybe I'm just bitter - a total of 5 years TTC, 2 miscarriages (despite seeing heartbeats at scans) and 100s of sticks peed on ... It's not a fun topic for me (and yes I normally skim right over them).

mrscog · 29/09/2014 06:59

Don't mind a poas thread where the poster has a stick there and ready to go - it's quite exciting. Bloody hate the ones where there's a lot of hmmm and ha and they they can't go to the shops to get a stick until sometime next week! What's the point?!

DontDrinkAndFacebook · 29/09/2014 06:59

YANBU. It's attention seeky in the extreme.

BalloonSlayer · 29/09/2014 07:01

The ones that annoy me are the ones titled "Oh no, What's wrong with me? Is this the menopause? Please diagnose me!" and in the OP she says her boobs are sore, she feels sick, period is late etc but she CAN'T be pregnant, oh no, so what IS it?

Five posts in she remembers that actually maybe she might have had unprotected sex on day 14 after all.

95 x posts of POAS

Oh but she can't today because the car has broken down/she's lost her purse/ is too busy (though not too busy to be on the internet) to get a test what a shame because she's just DYING to know.

NewEraNewMindset · 29/09/2014 07:02

The only reason they rankle me at all is because I'm jealous when they get a BFP and I'm still waiting.

But otherwise people are free to post what they like on here and just sometimes they turn into very poignant threads where the OP gets a very long awaited positive and everyone is dabbing their eyes.

The threads that piss me off are the insensitively titled ones where the OP is not happy to be pregnant and includes a load of expletives and termination references. I am pro-choice but dislike feotuses being discussed as though they are irritating warts that need removing. Certain subjects require careful language to my mind.

Workytypestuff · 29/09/2014 07:03

Yanbu

Why the hell somebody thinks someone online can determine whether they are pregnant or not i will never understand!

It annoys me, along with the endless lists of 'symptoms' and cervical mucus descriptions... Hmm

Just do a bloody test and you will know either way!

FamiliesShareGerms · 29/09/2014 07:07

Well, in slight defence I had all the symptoms but didn't get a sign from a stick until about 10 weeks in... But generally the threads are a bit random and I'm never quite sure what the OP wants from them

BeeInYourBonnet · 29/09/2014 07:14

Yanbu. No problem with a POAS thread, but the threads where the OP cannot possibly obtain a test for the next week are totally attention seeking.

Seriously how hard is it in our 24/7 society to relatively quickly get hold of a pg test? awaits tales of no car no shops no money etc etc

oopsamadaisy · 29/09/2014 07:17

Depends where you're reading them , if you're on the trying to get pregnant/Ttc whatever it's called board then yes YABU. Pretty much everyone on there is symptom spotting and the board is often where people go to 'let out the crazy' which you can't do in real life obsessing over every twinge etc.
If they're appearing in general chat boards or somewhere else inappropriate then YANBU but you don't have to read them in any case.

mimiasovitch · 29/09/2014 09:05

I'd kind of assumed indyref was some kind of a drug Blush.

ilovechristmas1 · 29/09/2014 09:58

yanbu

just attention seeking plain and simple

i read one once where the op posted and it took about 6days to actually test,it was getting ridiculous,i couldnt believe how people were getting so involved

i dont bother clicking anymore they make me roll my eyes to much Grin

Coumarin · 29/09/2014 09:59

One day the MN loft will cave in from the weight of all the 'should I poas?' threads, I have have hidden. Grin

It's attention seeking and gets right in my tits.

Coumarin · 29/09/2014 10:00

'Have have' Confused

Should say I might be treading the fine line of being a bitter ol cow sometimes though. 7 years ttc hasn't made me the most patient of people when it comes to poas hand wringing.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 29/09/2014 10:03

Yes, they are dull. Just test and then you can join the antenatal threads, or not.
