There's one in every room. No windows open. They just appear. I'm in bed and there's one rattling around the ceiling in that pointless fuck-witted way. I hate that noise. I hate their stupid long legs. I hate the stupid way they crave the light. And I hate them. AIBU.

I thought so Ora, he doesn't like moths or butterflies either. Just generally hates flappy things.

Maisyblue · 28/09/2014 23:16

I loathe them but then I loathe anything creepy crawly. They're just so persistent aren't they, the way they keep crashing their dopey bodies into the light, also noisy flies....why do they insist on droning incessantly round the room when I've got the door and the windows wide open. Just get lost, fly away!!!

CointreauVersial · 28/09/2014 23:18

Hoovering wasps out of the air Shock

What brilliance is this??

You could suck up a load of Raid spray afterwards just to seal the deal.

sykadelic · 28/09/2014 23:21

This is what I think when I hear daddy long legs: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pholcidae

Then I realised you meant a crane fly. Holy hell those things freak me out. They don't fly in a straight line so I can't properly guess where they're going and move out of the way efficiently... which results in some very classy yelling and screaming and arms waiving about.

Flying spiders. I mean really!

Flipflops7 · 28/09/2014 23:41

Leave them beeeeee! Poor things. :(

LackaDAISYcal · 28/09/2014 23:44

None here...cos the mutant fecking eight legged fraeks from hell have eaten them all

overslept · 28/09/2014 23:44

I am terrified of wasps, I tried to hoover a fly once and it was powerful enough to evade the suction so I reckon a wasp would just be really angry.

I see DLL as flying spiders. Once you imagine this they become unbearable. Also the thought of one stuck in my hair. Yuk.

whatsagoodusername · 28/09/2014 23:47

YANBU. At all. Horrible, horrible things. They all need to go outside and be eaten by birds to fulfil their destiny. It's just pointless to have them inside where the birds can't get at them.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/09/2014 23:47

and I kinda like the way they buzz and tickle when I catch them (DLs not the other things) In My Bare Hands

OraProNobis · 29/09/2014 07:24

Lacka - you is well 'ard - Grin

Mouthfulofquiz · 29/09/2014 09:38

I hate crane flies so much! There was a giant one in my living room yesterday! I didn't know until I turned the Hoover on and scared it - it dropped down from the ceiling and nearly hit my face!!
We have a spider as big as my hand living in the utility - no problem with him at a all. He is practically a family member. But the DLLs - YEEUUUUUCCCCCCCKKK.

memememum · 29/09/2014 11:27

I haven't minded them up until this year, but now... My 2.5 yr old ds has developed a mortal fear of them which is haunting his dreams and keeping me and dh up half the night. So now, because of my continued sleep deprivation YANBU

taxi4ballet · 29/09/2014 13:07

Hate the things. Hate their disgusting 'leatherjacket' larvae as well. Only thing they are good for is feeding starlings.

championnibbler · 29/09/2014 13:57

One in every room. Yuk. I'm very frightened of them. I would have to kill them all, I'm afraid. I find it very hard to get them out of the house, once they have got in.

SlimJiminy · 29/09/2014 16:11

See, I can't stand spiders, but I really don't mind DLLs at all. I can't explain why. I'll just happily cup them in my hand and pop them out the window, but all hell breaks loose when there's a spider in the house. Makes no sense at all.

Stinkle · 29/09/2014 16:21

No, I hate them too.

Spiders don't really bother me, but I hate daddy long legs.

They're every-bloody-where at the moment.

Took the dog out early this morning and loads were flying up at me out of the grass

NewName123 · 29/09/2014 16:25

YANBU
They are bloody every where at the moment. every night I get into bed there is at least one banging it's head on my ceiling. When you kill them they often stick to the wall as well which is bloody annoying!

Crinkle77 · 29/09/2014 18:50

I am terrified of spiders but don't mind daddy long legs even though they are the same sort of size. They just flutter along nicely but those other things run at the speed of late and crawl on your or stick to you clothes. Yuck!!!

CleoBrown · 29/09/2014 19:16

Haha I turn into a shrieking blubbering wreck when these are around - it's the flying at your face I have nightmares about (and did have regularly when I was a child - too many camping toilet images with them lurking in corners I reckon). I'm with you OP, but do feel slightly sad if they have no life as I didn't know that.

fluffyraggies · 29/09/2014 19:20

Terrified of spiders (although since finding out that those thin ones that stay at ceiling level EAT WOLF SPIDERS i intend to leave those particular ones where they are) and i hate crane flies.

Opened all the windows to enjoy the warm autumn sunshine today - then went round shutting them all again as i remembered the crane flies are out there!

I hate it when you lie down in bed in the dark and then, after a few moments, you hear that noise ......... rattle buzzing s o m e w h e r e in your bedroom ........... maybe over your head .... aaaaahhhhhhrrrrrrggg.

I like spiders but I really don't like daddy long legs - and, like spiders, they seem to be bigger this year!

SugarPlumTree · 29/09/2014 19:28

I was minding my own business yesterday, perusing MN as you do, when one flew straight into my face. It was highly unpleasant as I didn 't even know it was there

Stinkle · 29/09/2014 19:33

Urgh, one has just flown down the back of the sofa I'm sitting on.

I can't relax, any minute now it's going to pop back out. I can't see it, but I know it's there!!!!!

Deathraystare · 29/09/2014 19:38

I had one in my bedroom which I managed to 'shoosh out' with a thick magazine. I suggested it might join the two flies caught on flypaper. Ever so happy the next morning when it had apparently listened to me and done so!!!!!
