To think that little girls may also like cockroaches?

A local party provider does animal encounter parties. They offer a girls' package, (guinea pigs, hedgehogs, gerbils, rabbits, chinchillas) and a boys' party, (cockroaches, bull frogs, tarantulas, scorpions.)

Eh? Did I miss the parenting memo that says that cute and fluffy is for girls, more hard core animals are for boys? How will girls ever learn not to scream at spiders if they only get to view and touch rabbits?!

I'm a female and I have pet cockroaches, scorpions and tarantulas.

When the neighbourhood kids used to come and visit them, it was always the girls who were the most interested and least scared. The boys would be hanging around in the background looking very dubious Hmm

I hate gerbils. Would much rather see a tarantula. What a ridiculous stereotype to convey. Good on you for emailing

YANBU though I happen to have a DD who not only likes holding cockroaches but also happily ate a dead one at her zoo camp's "eat a cockroach, ant and grasshopper" session this summer. Shock
