AIBU to think that most people would know I HAVE to ask these questions?

I work for a well known chain which used to have a very good loyalty system. Ahem. It's not so great at the moment. One of the things I have to ask at the till is "Do you have a membership card?". Most normal people will say yes or no. Some people insist on quite angrily telling me why there's no point in using their card, and it's rubbish and they've been let down, etc etc. "Why do you idiots even bother asking this?" was a gem from tonight.

I just work there. I have to ask this question. Just "no" would do, surely. I am just a shop assistant.

It also means that the person who didn't ask will get in trouble.

I always feel really sorry for the cashiers who have to deal with tourist bastards visitors who seem absolutely incredulous that you have to pay 5p for a carrier bag, which then goes to charity. Complaining that they weren't warned about it when they walked in the shop (y'know, other than the stickers everywhere that state it quite clearly), that it's a stupid rule (that's your opinion, but it isn't the shop assistant's fault) and that someone should've warned them before they came here. Sorry, but that's been the rule since 2011, if you ignored the news when it came into force and the fact that it's a pretty well-known fact, that's your own fault... and if you need advance warning that plastic bags cost 5p, you're probably too delicate to visit here in the first place Grin

I'd love to know how much those who yell at me think I get paid certainly not enough to be treated like dirt

Oh God. Retail. I worked in retail when the 'pay for a bag' thing came in. People used to scream in my face. I get that they were angry but i didn't make up the rules!

My bank has started to ask 'how's your day going' at the cashiers desk. I thought it was just the lady being friendly but no everyone of them always says it. They are clearly told to say it.

I always just say 'great thanks, and you?' But secretly I'd love to start to tell her all my problems ha.

There's a local restaurant we go to quite often where they've started asking 'have you got plans for this evening?'

Yesterday I really wanted to say 'Sunday is always swingers night....'

OP, is there a system in place for you to feedback customer comments to management? Because I believe it's important for consumers to have an outlet. And this feedback should be getting through to those who make the decisions.

I often forget to get mine out till the checkout person says 'have you got a Nectar card? so I would be thanking you OP Smile

I am fed up of being asked if I want any chocolate at the till. I can see there is chocolate. If I want it I will buy it, you asking me won't make me buy it if I don't' want it.

Boots pissed me off today. They have lots of things on 3 for 2 but you can't mix Christmas 3 for 2's with regular ones. Fine, that is £10+ you aren't getting from me and I probably won't bother buying anything else in there so more money lost.

The one that irritates me in M&S is thank you for waiting so I commented to the assistant and she said they have to say it. It comes across as non genuine though so has the opposite effect of what Mr M&SHQ probably wants.
