...in getting really pissed off at my complete inability to find a pair of bloody slippers that fit?!

Title says it all really. Surely there must exist a pair of slippers that I can actually wear?!
I'm hoping that more seasoned equally picky slipper purchasers out there might be able to point me in the right direction?
I have bone spurs and arthritis in the 'knuckle' joints of both big toes, which means I can't wear low cut slippers (like Mary Jane or ballet flat style) as it is too painful. I need a proper back part - aforementioned issues means I can't keep slip on styles on my feet properly without walking like a proper muppet and I need a hard sole on the bottom. I seem to wear other styles out way too quickly!
I love Moshulu slippers but they just don't fit me :(

Have you tried men's slippers? They seem to make them a bit sturdier and mostly with backs, whereas apparently women just shuffle around with absolutely no need for their slippers to stay on!
Either that, or have you tried the boot style ones? Like this? www.marksandspencer.com/faux-fur-cuffed-bootie-slippers/p/p22326467

MrsAmaretto · 25/09/2014 17:50

I'm having the same trouble! I need to wear insoles for arch support so need a proper slippers too. I'm also finding size 6 are too small, 7 too large & likewise medium & large sizes.

Thinking I'll give up!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/09/2014 17:56

Oh, I came on to say Moshulu, but you've tried them. I have wide feet, high insteps and need to be able to wear orthotics in them from time to time and my moshulu boottee ones are just the job. Did you try more than one style? They have quite a range.

CMOTDibbler · 25/09/2014 18:00

I have fleece bootie slippers from Lands End which are blissful.

FelineLou · 25/09/2014 18:07

Try www.widerfitshoes.co.uk
They seem to make slippers and house shoes in width fittings.
not cheap but am delighted with the shoes I ordered and online means you can return if not right./

StillSquirrelling · 25/09/2014 18:42

I really don't like the boot style ones as my feet get really hot and start to stink The other issue I have is that i need a wide fit at the front because of the bone spurs - just to make sure they don't press down - but my feet are actually quite narrow so actual wide fitting shoes/slippers just slip right off. Sigh.

It's going to end up with me doing something I swore I'd never do and buy myself a pair of moccasins Blush

Have you tried actual ballet shoes?

The elastic over the top should keep them on, and as long as they are not split sole they should be fairly sturdy

Honeezreturn · 25/09/2014 18:51

Have you tried simplybe or Marisota Mail order?, My mum has similar foot problems and I bought her some from there

ifancyagreencard · 25/09/2014 18:54

Damn - when I read the title I was thinking "this woman needs Moshulu". Then read the post. Bugger!

StillSquirrelling · 25/09/2014 20:23

Virtual no, I hadn't thought of actual ballet shoes. They don't have a hard sole though, do they? I do quite often nip outside in my slippers to do a sheep/horses check before bedtime so soft soled slippers just get filthy and wear out too quickly.

Have you tried Totes Isotoners? Nice and soft and stretchy but with a hard sole, and not too expensive. I've broken the balls of my feet in the past and need flexible padded shoes, these are perfect and have lasted through some quite heavy duty padding about outside. Got four months out of them before they started to look worn, as they can go in the washing machine too.

tassisssss · 25/09/2014 20:50

i had M&S boot slippers (not their cheapest ones) 2 year ago and they're about to die. Will look for the same again.

They're kind of Ugg-like and purple and I confess that on more than one occasion I have worn them out. And they've still lasted 2 years. Am looking for the same again.

ouryve · 25/09/2014 20:52

I have hypermobile feet with collapsed arches and the beginnings of arthritis in my big toes, all complicated by some lovely heel spurs. I wear crocs around the house (and know a few people with knackered feet who do the same). They're roomy in the toe, have arch support and a firm base that doesn't collapse (so long as you don't buy the knock offs) and the classic style has a strap you can wear at the back, if you want, though I find I don't need it and my right heel is quite sensitive, so I prefer not to have it.

AnathemaIsANiceNameForAGirl · 25/09/2014 20:56

Sheepskin houseboots or mini boots (wool regulates temperature well so should not overheat or smell). Kiwi Sheepskins or Celtic & Co both excellent and can last years if necessary. Ideal for popping outside.

StillSquirrelling · 25/09/2014 20:57

collector - I'll have a look for those, thanks for the suggestion. It's the balls of my feet that are the problem (lots of arthritis damage there), coupled with the bone spurs on the top of them.

ouryve - I do have some Crocs already but they aren't very warm to wear as slippers! I only really keep them for wearing at the beach when on holiday where I'm unlikely to bump into people I know !

Slippers are a pain.
I nearly always end up having to sew up the back bit - to make them smaller, because they're too big!

olgaga · 25/09/2014 21:03

Look at Hotter - they have lovely slippers (and shoes). Good quality and worth every penny.

ouryve · 25/09/2014 21:03

Try them with wool socks. Lovely!

And I've given up buying slippers because the soles just collapse after a few wears and i end up falling over in them. DH hasn't had any since his last pair from Woolies bit the dust.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 25/09/2014 21:12

I have some sheepskin slippers which although a bit geriatric looking are warm, comfortable and non smelly. They also have a good sole and should last years apparently. About to get them out for winter number 2. Smile
