bag

As an adult, would you wear this Next rucksack - I have bought it and I am a tad unsure now I have got it home Confused I think I do like it and it's big enough - whats the mumsnet jury?!

DD thinks it's a bit too young for me (she's 10) but I quite liked it!

Not my style, but if you like it, wear it. :)

I still wear those hippy shoulder bag purses that I'm probably too old for.

It's your style, own it.

Meloria · 24/09/2014 16:41

It looks like really fake leather.

BreadForBrains · 24/09/2014 16:43

If you like it, wear it!

Staywithme · 24/09/2014 16:44

I love it and I'm 46! Go for it.

LadyLuck10 · 24/09/2014 16:46

What purpose will you be using it for?

iamdivergent · 24/09/2014 16:47

I feels like really cheap leather too actually!

So if you saw an obviously not school aged person wandering round with the backpack on you'd not laugh?!

Lady just everyday use, I am getting sore shoulders from carrying around a very full shoulder bag atm (I need my books!)

I think it's fine. It's just another form of a handbag? Some wear across the chest, over should, you just wear it on your back.

WeirdCatLady · 24/09/2014 16:50

I'm 41 and own a bagpuss backpack.

IMHO if you love it then that is good enough reason :)

It looks like something you'd find on a 90's market stall.

I tend to go for functional rucksacks though, Trespass or Berghaus. Or occasionally Kipling, now that's an example of not acting my age Grin

iamdivergent · 24/09/2014 16:55

I would love a converse backpack

OP posts:
iamdivergent · 24/09/2014 16:56

bag

But I do think it looks a bit like its for a younger person sob

OnlyLovers · 24/09/2014 17:00

I don't think it looks like a child's bag, if that's what you're asking? It's not my personal taste, but for an adult, yes, it's fine.

PBJellyBelly · 24/09/2014 17:12

The Next one looks fine for an adult. I have an Eastpak junior messenger bag which I use for work..been told it looks like a school bag but I don't think so?! As for the Converse bag, why not? You should buy whatever you like if it suits your particular style. Maybe see if "Santa" will bring it for you? Wink

LadyMud · 24/09/2014 17:17

It's fine, a classic . . . ageless, timeless
(in other words, no-one else will even notice it)

KnackeredMuchly · 24/09/2014 17:20

If you want the converse go for it!

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 24/09/2014 17:23

I like it and I'm in my 50s. (That might put you off, though).
If a person is going to laugh at someone else's hand baggage/rucksack, then I'd think that says an awful lot more about them. Honestly - do they not have more important things to think about?

I'd personally go for what is practical and comfortable, and wouldn't give a flying fig what anyone else thinks

iamdivergent · 24/09/2014 17:29

I've got the converse one because I love it, DH says it's very me Grin

I would say it depends on the rest of your outifit/your general 'style'. But I don't think you are too 'old' for that backpack. Looks absolutely fine and stylish to me.

I should say tho that I am late 50s, and have a VERY casual 'style'. (And that I LOVE backpacks!)

I always wear a small backpack when I go out, and hardly ever bother with a hand bag unless going somewhere 'smart'. But I don't work, & don't generally/often need to worry about how I look. (Or what other people think.)

I have a black/grey backpack for everyday use/light shopping. It's a "Hedgren" fabric one which I bought years ago. (Still going strong.)

It's a bit like this one, but not exactly the same. www.hedgrenwebshop.com/hedgren-great-adventure/maledives-m-backpack-black)

And then I have a 'proper' (bigger) "outdoors rucksack" for heavy duty shopping, for actual "hikes" & for airline travel when I'm travelling in 'casual' mode. (Cos I can get my laptop and lots of books etc in the bigger one.)

IMO, it's MUCH better for your back/posture to use a small rucksack, (than a shoulder/hand bag), and less likely to get stolen by an opportunist thief. And I just love having both my hands/arms free for other things.

I usually also use a waist-bag for my money/any small valuables, as more secure in front. (And again it's hands-free.)

I am never without my backpack, and I LOVE it, but I probably do look a bit like I'm on a post-retirement gap year most of the time?! Grin

it is a fashion item and thus useless for carrying anything heavier than a lipstick and a few tissues.

if you are carrying more than that, you need a bag that transfers the weight to your hips with a belt.

up to you if you want to be the most stylish person in the physio department. If that bothers you, get a decent bag for carrying stuff.

Littledidsheknow · 24/09/2014 17:51

If you like it, buy it!
I like it, and wouldn't think twice about buying it; nor would I worry if I was too old for it.

I am 45.
