To think that a "Cake Consultant" is just a really poncy way of advertising a job?

So I was just reading an AIBU thread and happened to glance at the MN job adverts on the right, and this was screaming at me: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/jobs/2175240--Konditor-Cook-Cake-Consultant-Londons-Cake-Shop-7-50-per-hour-after-training
Wt-good-f is a Cake Consultant other than someone who works in a cake shop and why would you ever, ever risk putting that sort of poncy nonsense on your CV? Hmm
I mean, I would love to work in a cake shop but I'd rather drown myself in a bowl of fermenting yeast than call myself a "Cake Consultant"!

They do sell very expensive cakes, bit embarrassing they pay below London living wagw

puntasticusername · 23/09/2014 18:41

OMFG I'd love to be a "Cake Consultant" for a living.

YANBU though. It's a bit like the people who work in Subway being Sandwich Artists.

KnackeredMuchly · 23/09/2014 18:42

Reasonable wage if it involves eating cake and saying "Yum" a la GGBO!

If they're after a baker - it's a pretty poor wage for London and a shit job title

MarshaBrady · 23/09/2014 18:42

They do nice cakes. Someone who loves making cakes should go for it.

Then after a while you get to be a senior cake consultant.

StrawberryCheese · 23/09/2014 18:43

I agree, I don't think anybody would take you seriously.

What do you do for a living?
I'm a consultant.
Oh, what kind?
A cake consultant
Hmm

StrawberryCheese · 23/09/2014 18:45

Grin I've just noticed the subsidised gym membership!

MarshaBrady · 23/09/2014 18:45

arf!

smokeandglitter · 23/09/2014 18:45

I love it! Sounds hilarious! I would love it on my CV after Sandwich Artist! Grin

MarshaBrady · 23/09/2014 18:46

You never know, you'd probably get a better reception at a dinner party to cake consultant than management consultant.

MothershipG · 23/09/2014 18:47

The job is waitress/shop assistant but I love the gloriously grandiose title they've given it! It made me click on the link. Grin

It actually sounds like hard work for not very much money.

Chippednailvarnish · 23/09/2014 18:49

I wrote to Mr Kipling once to ask if he had any cake testing vacancies. He never replied, the bastard.

Bearbehind · 23/09/2014 18:50

I saw a job advertised for staff for Subway and that was for 'sandwich artists' Grin

Bulbasaur · 23/09/2014 18:50

Here in the US we have:

Sandwich Artist (person that makes sandwiches at Subway)
Cone Artist (person who make soft serve icecream cones)

You're not an artist for assembling food. Hmm

They need to stop trying to make these menial jobs look more important than they are. It's ok to have a shit job if that's what you need to pay the bills and put food on the table. It really is. This is how you get ridiculous titles that you have to explain what they are to people.

francisdrakehasleprosy · 23/09/2014 18:50

puntastic real Sandwich Artist
Marsha, does that mean you'll end up as "CEO of Cake"?

OP posts:
Momagain1 · 23/09/2014 18:50

Once you have worked in the sort of place that calls the job cake consultant, you are in for applying at similarly poncy shops, so that's alright then.

If you are applying to less poncy shops, you edit your CV to reflect the real job title, and probably have a good laugh at the interview.

PinkSquash · 23/09/2014 18:51

Just for putting the apostrophe in "London's Cake Shop" they're twatty, let alone for the horrid 'Cake Consultant' job title.

francisdrakehasleprosy · 23/09/2014 18:54

strawberry The gym membership is there because they don't want people who look like they eat cake all day to sell cakes. That would send the wrong message. Because only thin people should eat cakes and/or you will be thinner if you eat our cakes. Obviously. Hmm
chipped I'm so sorry about Mr Kipling. What a tosser.

Bearbehind · 23/09/2014 18:54

Sorry - totally missed puntastics post Blush

SignYourNameInBrownAndFlame · 23/09/2014 18:54

Err, the apostrophe is correct?

Can I be a Crumpet Counsellor? Or an Eclair Evangelist?

Chippednailvarnish · 23/09/2014 18:55

I abandoned my cake related ambitions and now I'm a bitter accountant.

PinkSquash · 23/09/2014 18:56

Noooo, the apostrophe is wrong, surely it's replacing the missing letter, as if it's belonging to it would be London s'?

francisdrakehasleprosy · 23/09/2014 18:56

mothership Yes, the pay is rubbish for London and the job description. Even if you include the cake. (Although there is probably also some rule that staff can't eat the left-over cake at the end of the day, nor give it to the homeless, for elf and safety reasons.)

OP posts:
MarshaBrady · 23/09/2014 18:58

Francis yes!

Although I did chat with someone the other day who new a Global Head of Spreadables.

MarshaBrady · 23/09/2014 18:58

Hell

Knew

SignYourNameInBrownAndFlame · 23/09/2014 18:58

Nope, sorry PinkSquash. It is the Cake Shop of London - London singular - so it's London's Cake Shop.
