My DS started nursery school three weeks ago. He loves it and everything is going well so far. He attends breakfast and after school club all week which we pay extra for too. When a child gets dirty or wet they change clothes, and we keep a fresh change in his nursery bag. The dirty clothes are delivered to AS club in a carrier bag and placed on a peg with child's coat. On his third day, they changed his jumper and trousers and they were mistakenly collected by another parent. Nothing was said so I asked each day for anout a week and was eventually told they had been brought back to school and left in the reception building. AS club manager was not able to locate them so that was that.
Now tell me, cos this is all new to me, should we just let it go with the school? I don't want to make enemies but this was a brand new badged jumper (plain ones are obviously cheaper but I bought a couple of badged ones so he'd look really smart) and brand new trousers. All named. Should I pursue it or leave it? I'm not really arsed as I've the feeling this probably happens all the time but DH is after compo!

I think you have little chance of getting them back now. Lesson learned by me...never send them to nursery in anything but old tat!

I'd go on about it a bit more. Are you not able to contact someone in main reception during core hours and chase things up?

WooWooOwl · 22/09/2014 20:59

Keep asking in a friendly way, but it's not worth pushing. If the clothes were named and they turn up, they will get them back to you.

Your DH s crazy if he's thinking compensation! I'm assuming you're not serious, but parents do go crazy over stuff like this so I wouldn't be surprised.

There's not a lot the staff can do if someone else has walked off with a jumper, and they do have more important things to be doing with their time than tracking school jumpers.

Deffo lesson learned...replacement uniform was bought second hand off eBay! I should have made it clear the parent hung the uniform up on the pegs the reception pupils use, not at reception, which would have made much more sense...

He honestly thought he was entitled to a free day's care for the loss!

It might still be worth contacting the main reception. If the reception class teacher saw them and realised they didn't belong to a member of her class she may well have given them to the office.

Yeah, the lost property mountain is situated in the after school club building. I've had a good old delve!

I learnt this from the first term PFB was in nursery, get your child's name embroided under the logo. I have not had a lost jumper or cardigan lost since.
