Getting married at Christmas, having a small registry office do with close family only.
Got quotes for small hand tied bouquet and they are all coming in at around £80 mark. I think thats a lot for such a small amount of flowers and thinking I just won't bother. Everyone else seems to think I have to have flowers.

That is expensive. I made my own bouquet for my wedding. Ordered in some nice roses and gerberas from my local florist - bought the wire and ribbon online and had a go. Practised with some cheaper flowers from the supermarket firs though.

Have a look at this video for ideas on how to do it. video jug

I made my own wedding bouquet the night before my wedding with flowers from a local market. Able to tie it with ribbon that matched part of my outfit. Loads of people admired it and thought it was a pro job. Pin it with pearl pins and cut the stems with a sharp knife so it looks really well made and no need to spend more than £25.

it is also nice to make your own as you can be proud of your skills. I had never done anything with flowers before, but managed to make a decent enough bouquet for myself, one for my adult bridesmaid and buttonholes for the groom and best man!

For the young flowergirls I cobbled something together using fabric flowers as I thought they would hold together better.

Mine was £90 but was very intricately designed and included different shades of roses and cumquats which boosted the price up. Ask the florists what they could do to make it cheaper or watch youtube and make your own.

I made my own from a supermarket bouquet of roses, blue thistles and some nice ribbon. Bouquet for about £15 Smile

I drove to new Covent garden flower market the day before my wedding, spent £150 and had 10 table decorations, bridal bouquet, 2 bridesmaid posies, 5 Gerbera buttonholes.

It was all roses too, hundreds of them.

I made my own with wooden roses (I intended to keep them, but they fell apart about 6 months later). But I had my button holes done by the local garden centre, they did an amazing job and were really reasonably priced. Might be worth trying your local garden centre and seeing if they do bridal flowers at good prices.
Or do them your self.

Have a look on Pinterest.

It's very easy to make a hand tied bouquet yourself and should easy cost less than 20 quid including some nice ribbon.

They would probably be an awful lot cheaper were they a just a small, hand-tied bouquet. If, however, they are a small, hand-tied bouquet for a wedding it automatically increases the price by 100 per cent.!

if you buy a cake, it will cost X pounds. By the same cake but it's a wedding cake, at least double or triple.

I bought a beautiful bouquet for £12 in Costco, took out the filler flowers, wrapped it with florist's tape and wrapped this around. Really simple!

what about a bouquet made of buttons or brooches , they are beautiful too.

I made these for my daughters wedding , much admired, old jewellery , granny's wedding ring, very personal. Time consuming to make but lovely to keep.

Unfortunately anything with the 'W' word automatically increases the price .

I had a small wedding and went to the florist the day before and ordered a small, hand-tied bouquet. Cost me £40. If you don't have really specific requirements about the flowers, choose based on what they have in stock and don't mention the "w" word!

It's extortionate. Are you in London? I paid £80 for. Huuuuge bouquet, was 12 years ago though. Not sure if it was hand tied though? I'm wondering how else you could tie a bouquet than with your hands? Confused Is this the wedding equivalent of pan fried fish? Grin

It's seems ianbu then.

Not in London, I'm in East Anglia.

Think they may have added extra because it's wedding and Christmas.

That video makes it look easy(ish), I have ivy in the garden and that would work with Christmas theme. I reckon if I go to the supermarkets the day before they will be lots of Christmas type flowers.

That bouquet wrap looks like a good idea too, although I did see a video wheee they used vet wrap. As it's porous you can do it night before and leave in water.

Waitrose do fantastic flowers, and a lot of their table bouquets would do equally well hand held.
