Because this means that I am now considered to be an old fart Sad Angry. I am not! I am young (as long as I keep my roots up)! I am hip (although I have no idea what on earth 'young people' are on about these days)! I still wear skinny jeans!!!

Actually I wish I HAD a Health Check.
I was smugly thinking I'm ok because I don't smoke, drink or eat meat/fish or chicken.
Fairly fit (bit overweight at 11stone but I'm 48yo, 5'5" and had 2 DC)
Had my smear tests, eye tests, mammogram.

No problems , right?
Wrong - my cholesterol is 6.3% last check and I'm brewing a gallstone.

So don't be offended. Do it Wink

I got a letter from my gp offering me a health check and I'm only 26, don't be too offended.

I was bullied (illegally) into having a smear about 20 years ago. Thank god. I had CIN3. I take all offers of health checks quite gratefully nowadays.

Had an appointment with the nurse last week. She asked me if I was over 40.. I'm 31! Wanted to slap her, bitch!

cardamomginger · 23/09/2014 08:48

Butternet - oh dear!
Super - that is definitely slap-worthy!

70 and wobbly - I refused because I have had a vast amount of medical treatment and investigation over the last 4 years across several medical specialities and have been screened, tested, poked and prodded into oblivion! I'm still under the care of 3 separate consultants. There is nothing that they would do at a healthcheck that hasn't already been done - I've had an extremely comprehensive blood screen (in excess of what the NHS would do) and cardio testing, amongst many other things.

I do take my health seriously, and if I thought there was the remotest chance that it could benefit me, I'd do it. I would still reserve the right to be offended though!

I asked my surgery for one and found out they had just started doing them for people of a certain maturity Wink. I can see why you might not need one, OP. But generally I think they're a very good idea in terms of providing information that might prompt changes and ward off future health issues.
