When ds was about 3 or 4, and refused foul tasting yellow med, I managed to persuade him to hold his own nose so that it wouldn't taste so bad. I think he thought I was bonkers but tried it and found it worked like a dream!

Use a syringe and squirt inside the side of the mouth, between cheek and teeth. Avoiding taste buds really helps (it's also a great technique for winning chilli eating competitions but that's another story)....

Syringe wherever possible, suppositories if not. English GPs tend not to prescribe suppositories as there's a sort of national disgust for them but in the rest of Europe it's pretty standard, especially for children. Many drugs exist in this form.

Fortunately mine seem to enjoy taking medicines - 4 different types of AB, antihistamines, calpol, calprofen, steroids...

Sometimes we put meds into their milk - as long as there are no reasons why this is a problem - ciprofloxacin for example can't be taken within 2 hours of milk, calcium or dairy products.

Ds has had suppositories for paracetamol and ibuprofen, but we have never been able to get them for any other meds, despite him having problems with swallowing.
