My DH has asked me to ask the collective wisdom of MN if eating large salad onions in breakfast rolls is potentially marriage wrecking ...........Genuine question ............I really like them , He less so .........

HamstersAndHockeySticks · 17/09/2014 18:53

Probably.

PrettyPictures92 · 17/09/2014 19:22

Don't you brush your teeth after breakfast anyway? I wouldn't think it a big deal

Hoppinggreen · 17/09/2014 19:58

I Dont know what a breakfast roll is but it doesn't sound too nice with just onions in.

Bulbasaur · 17/09/2014 20:02

Well, what else is in the sandwich? Is it just bread and onions?? Confused

Brush your teeth, drink water, etc.. There's not really a reason for bad breath is there?

amyhamster · 17/09/2014 20:04

Onions & rolls for breakfast?!

ILovePud · 17/09/2014 20:06

One of my friends orders garlic prawns on our nights out specifically to repel her hubby's advances when she gets home shattered. My pet hate is people who stink out the office by eating tuna or egg butties at their desks.

lettertoherms · 17/09/2014 20:07

In a marriage? Anything goes.

It's only those early days of dating where there's any need to sacrifice the joys of garlic and onions.

nemno · 17/09/2014 20:13

I am kind, I would only consider eating durian when DH was away for several days, he could still tell by the smell in the car (just from transporting the luscious beast). I miss durian Sad

I think onions are also not easily banished from breath so I have some sympathy with your poor DH.

HappyAgainOneDay · 17/09/2014 20:17

Doesn't the flavour of things like curry, onions, garlic, fry up and other things come out with your breath? Comes out of your pores as well so you will smell in the morning of whatever you had to eat in the evening.

TattyDevine · 17/09/2014 20:23

Yeah you breathe it out even if its not plastered round your teeth, unlike say cheese which might stick to your teeth but can be cleaned off. Its all about FUMES.

I'd be inclined to say "well stay away then cupcake" but hey I've been married so long I'm on my 2nd 7 year itch.

Some foods are definitely antisocial to eat in public. Once was on a train and a chap next to me started peeling hard boiled eggs and eating them. He had about 8!

Those tins of mackerel in tomato sauce taste fab but stink out half a room.

There was a lady at my old office who was on a health kick and she'd microwave those little bags of mixed veg. I love veg but things like broccoli and cauliflower, when microwaving, smell like bad socks, it would stink the place out, even though they taste perfectly fine Grin

Tuna crunch bloomer from Greggs (sorry!) is soooo nice but I once had one before a facial and regretted it. Spent the rest of the time trying to talk like a ventriloquist when the therapist said stuff to me like "I'm going to clip your hair back with a headband" and "please lay your hands down by your side" etc etc. I was all "mmmm hmmmmmm" thinking I must smell like mermaid shit.

dolicapax · 17/09/2014 20:24

I wouldn't call it marriage wrecking, but if DH ate that I would de-camp to the spare room for the night and avoid being breathed on next day. However, thinking about it if he ate them every day I would be avoiding him 24/7 which would be marriage wrecking.

Be considerate, save this as a special treat and don't inflict it on him very often. The smell is very unpleasant. Worse than severe BO. I'd question why you want to eat something that would make you smell like that.

gentlehoney · 18/09/2014 14:32

Onions are nothing, compared to the entire nation reeking of garlic. Now THAT's antisocial!

MrsWinnibago · 18/09/2014 14:40

Eat them OP. My DH has an issue with crisps...ALL crisps and I love a crisp or 9. So I carry on regardless. Partnership does NOT mean stopping eating your fave foods.

I tell DH to bugger off to another room if I'm eating crisps....well...if I'm in the kitchen I do....I avoid eating them in the sitting room if he's watching tv as I think it's the noise. It's not just me....he can't abide anyone eating them. Fruitcake that he is.

MaidOfStars · 18/09/2014 14:50

Antisocial foods? Unsociable = not liking the company of others. Am pedantic about this as my husband is often described as antisocial when he is not remotely antisocial but is actually unsociable. Anyway, I've bored myself now...

I think it's a bit odd to eat onions in the morning (although that's presumably social conditioning), and I think uncooked ones such as spring onions could be considered antisocial, as the smell really lingers.

Even after brushing, flossing and drinking lots of liquid, it's still there, isn't it?

FrenchJunebug · 18/09/2014 16:26

I like raw onions so no if followed by teeth brushing.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 18/09/2014 16:52

nope anything goes, this is why mouthwash exists Smile now my super oniony curries, well... that's a different ball game altogether

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 18/09/2014 17:34

The only time I've ever eaten onions at breakfast is at festivals, where a bacon, egg, cheese and onion roll and breakfast beer is the only thing that helped me survive the hangover.

Any other time, onions at breakfast is wrong.

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 18/09/2014 17:35

Please - what on earth is a breakfast roll?

CheesyBadger · 18/09/2014 17:41

If I eat raw onions it comes out in my pores. I am a walking onion for a day. Still eat then though, just up the perfume!

Twitterqueen · 18/09/2014 17:45

It's not just the breath though is it? Let's be honest. Anything onion related - or all root vegetable related - will find it's way out through other channels.... generally (in my case) about 2 or 3 hours afterwards. Which is why I've stopped having leek and potato soup for lunch...

SanitaryOwl · 18/09/2014 17:53

A breakfast roll is just a bread roll. It's not a "breakfast" item, as such.

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 18/09/2014 19:01

Thanks, sanitaryGrin
