AIBU to be stunned that anybody took that Muslim's against Peppa Pig video seriously?

I'm sure most of you have heard that a Muslim guy is apparently complaining that Peppa Pig should be banned because she's haram as she's a pig. There was a video accompanying this.

I watched the video and it was clearly a piss take. It was actually really funny, it was posted on facebook and a lot of quite witty responses were put on there too. I don't think many people were taking it seriously. But since this surfaced around a fortnight ago I've actually been hearing people who I think are otherwise quite intelligent, well rounded people stating with absolute certainty that 'they want Peppa banned'.

The rumours gone round like wildfire. I can't believe people didn't realise it was a piss take. It was quite obvious to me. I'd actually quite like to see this bloke given his own comedy show TBH.

Can't watch the vid at the moment, don't want to wake my kids.

But I'd like to ban that insolent, pretentious, oinking family too. Peppa Pig gives me the rage. likely cuz my DD wants to watch it during her every waking hour.

Not surprised that some people thought that about the Muslim fella, is amazing what guff some people believe, especially about a common figure of hate.

TheNewStatesman · 14/09/2014 04:27

I can't believe that this guy was stupid enough to do this. Surely he must be aware that things that start off as parodies often end up being taken quite seriously? Look at Alf Garnett, FGS.

FoxgloveFairy · 14/09/2014 09:04

Well, we are talking here about a religion who, at the extreme edges, want women to live in bags, advocate the hanging of gay people etc. They did complain about the Scottie dogs at the Commonwealth games, dogs being haram. Not that big a stretch to believe they would have a go at young Peppa.

Idontseeanysontarans · 14/09/2014 09:10

I saw that video and although it's obviously a piss take I know several people who would take it seriously and get all 'I you don't like it then leave' so didn't feel I could share it. It is funny though.
I too would ban PP for being the most irritating animal on the planet Grin

Mrsstarlord · 14/09/2014 09:15

Haven't watched it but saw the FB page, similar to the Britain furst FB page but parodying Britain First. Gone a bit off the boil now but brilliant to begin with, just terrifying the number of people who just didn't get it.

Krakken · 14/09/2014 09:21

When you have companies like Yahoo posting in their news sections that 'Muslims want to ban Peppa Pig' and writing a whole article as if it was true based on this parody, I'm not surprised loads of people believe it.
The media happily fuels islamaphobia.

'My son used to want to be adopted but now he wants to be a pig.' Grin

limitedperiodonly · 14/09/2014 09:27

Sorry, I misheard. Blush Apparently his son wanted to be a doctor.

I prefer 'adopted' Smile

FrancesNiadova · 14/09/2014 09:35

Hilarious! What a brilliant spoof. I love, "The most Haramest thing on the TV," and, "My son wanted to be a Dr, now he wants to be a pig."
I think that the bloke in the clip has a brilliant sense of humour, priceless! Grin GrinGrinGrin

ghostland · 14/09/2014 10:43

Honestly I can't tell whether it is a parody or not. I hope it is as it is so funny and he may have a future as a stand up comedian.

RogueV · 14/09/2014 10:49

Haha it's hilarious!

Abdullah the cat Grin

I'd be far more bothered about yet more beheading of hostages by traitors with British accents in the middle east.

AndHarry · 14/09/2014 10:57

I think if you don't actually watch the video but see a lot of FB posts and crappy 'news' articles about it then it would be easy to get the wrong idea. Plus, it's easy to be uncritical of a story that fits into a narrative you've already bought into.

AndHarry · 14/09/2014 10:59

I've also seen articles from The Onion quoted as fact Hmm and articles in mainstream press that don't withstand the shallowest critical analysis. Looking at you, The Guardian and Time...

poolomoomon · 14/09/2014 11:02

Oh so this is the video my friend was telling me about the other day! Thanks for sharing, I couldn't stop giggling at Abdullah the cat the other night. My friend told me it was serious though, not a parody. He said someone had retaliated and was bitching on about how if you don't like Peppa Pig you can 'go back home', complaining about baa baa rainbow sheep- is that also a parody? My friend really thought they were real...

FoxgloveFairy · 14/09/2014 11:14

You and me both UncleT.

SaucyJack · 14/09/2014 11:21

It's sadly ironic that the made-up spoof is far and away the least worst thing that is currently in the news in the name of certain religions.
