to be wanting to try this experiment? Related to determining the sex of babies

I come from a farming area. Apparently older generations 'decided' or 'guessed' the gender of their babies using information they had on how to breed 'the right' livestock (for example in the case of dairy cattle).
The information I was given actually matches my experience. With my first born I thought it was pure coincidence, but I recently found out whether, if all goes well, I will be having a boy or a girl next, and this time, too, the gender matches.
I am now curious to find out whether other women also find that this information matches their experience/reality (but I do not know enough pregnant/women with babies). However, I do not want this to be in any way understood as a 'gender engineering' experiment. I think it could be fun and I am curious.
What do you think? Should we try this or is it going to be very messy?

Nothing to do with the mother, sex is determined by sperm. All eggs are X, all sperms are X or Y.

DramaAlpaca · 13/09/2014 22:37

It's only right for one out of my three.

BikeRunSki · 13/09/2014 23:18

What about boy girl twins?
Surely this theory would mean that all the babies born on the same day were the same sex? And then for about 2 weeks?

Marking place to read later and make a baby

If you have a 28 day cycle you will ovulate at the same time as the moon cycle every time.

By that logic 50% of women would have boys and 50% girls, but as families often have more than one that is sheer bollox.

Nothing to do with the mother, sex is determined by sperm. All eggs are X, all sperms are X or Y.

Actually the acidity of the vagina and how recently the woman has ovulated can have a bearing on this.

My DD should be a DS if this were true!

What is the difference between sex and gender?

ToughTimes1 · 14/09/2014 06:42

It's wrong for me! DS is definitely a boy Grin I know my exact dates due to ivf.

Why are some people getting arsey about it? It's a bit of fun ffs!

mummytime · 14/09/2014 07:03

Well I must've been bored, so I tried it for all three of my children, and it was 100% wrong. 2 girls and 1 boy. My guesses in pregnancy were far more correct.

3bunnies · 14/09/2014 07:16

Ds should be a girl although it works for both girls. All conceived around same phase of the moon. Sample size of 3 though is too small! Maybe I should have another to increase the sample size.

Ellasmum16 sex is your biological 'male or femaleness' so whether you have male chromosomes or female ones. Presence or absence of penis etc. Gender is the social definition of 'male or femaleness'. For many people they will have the same sex and gender but e.g. a person born biologically 'male' but who feels and behaves as a female would be of the male sex but female gender. Sometimes in the past due to early events (e.g. circumcision errors) a child might have been born male but have their gender reassigned and raised as female. With varying degrees of success.

wokeupwithasmile · 14/09/2014 07:20

To those of you who are saying it is wrong, are you sure?? Could it not be that your girl is actually a boy and vice versa? ...and scans can be wrong... Grin

Sashh No, I do not get your logic.

AndIFeed Cheers! I lost it when the website mixed waxing and waning with crescent and gibbous...

Both DD is should be DSs - not willing to have number 3 to see if it holds tho!

wokeupwithasmile · 14/09/2014 07:26

Ellasmum16, to add to what 3bunnies said, I am female because I have a female reproductive system, lactating boobs, etc, as much as any other animal/mammal who is female (the famous dairy cows). However, I am a woman because I have been taught and trained by society, parents, tv, and so forth to cook for my family, shave my legs, earn less than my husband because I do not have to support a whole family whereas he does, I am supposed to be less good at driving cars, I am more caring towards my son, and so on and on.

sashh Yes certain conditions do favour X over Y sometimes in regards to the woman, you are correct. The sperm is the biggest decident though. One men make better 'X' sperm then 'Y' and vice versa, certain conditions in men also affect that so even if the mother's conditions favor 'Y' if the fathers sperm is more motile 'X' then iit's more skewed in his favor. Or in no ones sadly.
