To work full time if I don't have to?

DCs are 5 and 2.5. I have been offered an amazing full time job. We don't need the money but I am conscious that I'm in a vulnerable financial position if anything happened to DH or our relationship.

With the commute I'd only see the DCs for max 30
mins per dayHmm

I have been applying for part time and local jobs for nearly a year and haven't got anywhere.

What to do??

I think taking it's the right decision. As you said, you can always resign if it becomes a nightmare. But even if it did and you did, you'd have more recent experience and references at your next interview rather than ones from 6 years ago. Plus it gets you experience in an area you want to work in which would make you more competitive for other PT/more local jobs in the sector. And as museummum says, once you're in you can make the case for PT or reduced hours or even working from home/later starts, all the smaller things that make the day a little bit easier.

You're right too to ask the 'what if?' question. My DH was made redundant a few years ago and I suddenly became the family breadwinner - and thanked my lucky stars that I had gone back to work FT, because at that point if I hadn't have done, we'd have been sunk.

Absolutely do it. I don't 'have to' work at all, although it would be a miserable existence if I didn't.

I work full time for my own personal growth and satisfaction.

I'd give it a go. Rather that than regret it later.
Hope it works out ok Thanks

I was in nearly exactly the same situation as you two months ago and decided to go for the job offer. And two weeks in I'm so glad I did!!! I'm really enjoying it, it fits exactly in my cv and the kids seem so far happy (although I pick them up at 4.30 - I start at 7.30am - so get more than 30 min a day with the kids). I also could have gone for part time work but it wouldn't have been in my line of work. My plan is to work there for a year, then reconsider and maybe reduce hours as it's currently 40 hours a week and would like to do around 32 ideally.

Yes try it and see how it is.

In your position I would go for it. Everyone has the right to ask for flexible working, so once you are eligible, request a change in working hours to part time. If you don't get it, and you are not happy to continue working fulltime, then resign.
