I'll keep it as brief as I can
. Was made redundant from a job I loved 2 1/2 years ago. Since then I've had 3 very unsatisfactory jobs ; been laid off, forced to resign , bullied etc.
So it's been 2 months of being on the dole and still have a mortgage ,debts etc.
I have been realistic about finding my dream job in the current economic climate and feel a " mundane" position with regular hours really suits my needs as I would rather be busy earning minimum wage than all the mind games and nastiness I've encountered of late.
At my local job club, with an attendance of about 6 max, I was told by my careers advisor that a local firm had contacted them the day before and were desperate for pickers/packers to work asap as they had recruited no less than 11 people and not one had turned up for work and had asked them to personally recommend likely candidates.
As the factory is on my doorstep I applied for the post and forwarded my CV and a covering letter.
2 days later I followed this up with a phone call, ditto the second day.
Told advisor and she said I ought to pay them a visit.
I turned up well groomed and upbeat full of hope.
Was told, " sorry we don't have any vacancies at present".
So why in God's name have they said they were desperate for staff?
Are they trying to " big themselves up" to rival companies?
I am at a loss as to why this has happened.
Anyone had a similar experience?
