We had the first newsletter home from school today and there was a picture of the new starters, which my ds is one of, along with a welcome to them all and listed all their names. Except for my ds was missed out. AIBU to be bothered by it??

There is only 15 of them in total in his class..I probably wouldn't have minded so much if there was loads of them. But it's a small class at a small class. Do I mention it or just stay quiet? I probably would've like to keep the newsletter because of the pic and welcome. I don't want to aim anything at his teachers as they didn't write it, the headmistress did. But if I write her a note I'm probably going to automatically give myself the one of "those" parents brand aren't I.

I'm a primary teacher and I think the school would be understanding. It's not quite the same, I know, but they will still have the file and they can print an amended one out just for you.

I'm thinking maybe I might email about It? Then I know it will reach the office where the head is rather than doing it through his teachers whose fault it isn't in the slightest.

I'd be upset at that, and as I work in a reception class, if I noticed that that had happened to one of our new starters, I'd be going straight to my boss (knowing that she writes the letters) to point it out.

How can a school claim to include and value every child when they do something like this? I get that it was probably an honest mistake that doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things, but this stuff matters when you're only 4, or your baby has just started school!

Emailing or going into the office is a good idea, do whichever is easiest for you. Don't feel bad, the school should be mortified about doing this and I'm sure the class teacher will be able to see your point exactly. I think it would be worth checking with the class teacher that he is on her class lists, just fir the sake if drawing her attention to the mistake.

I think I'd find a way of mentioning it gently. It may be used for parties. Apart from that it is really upsetting when this happens, and might teach them to be a bit more careful in future. YANBU at all. I've cried over less than this.

Thanks everybody. I was going to volunteer as a parent helper so will need to stop by the office anyway...I might just casually say something then from the "wanted to make sure he is on the class list" perspective.

Thanks again everybody - was sure I was going to be told how totally irrational I was being!
