DD is 8 and has decided to be vegie, she has given me very good arguments and has thought about it a lot, she is willing to give up her favourite hot pork sandwiches etc. So all is fine but then she noticed somme haribo and I told her that they contain gelatin and told her what gelatin is, I said I will look into what sweets she can have today and get some in. I just think if she is doing this for all the right reasons it would be wrong to let her eat them not knowing. On the other hand I cpud easily have not told her and she would be none the wiser but I am not out to try and trick her into eating something that she has made a valid moral decision not to. So WIBU?

Rennet comes from a sheeps stomach, not sure exactly what is but definitely an animal product.

Interesting. So time has changed with new technology advances. A lot of cheese now uses enzymes for curdling. There are only a few cheeses that always use animal rennet.

That's good. I'm not a vegetarian myself so not at all up to date but it must make a huge difference to those who wanted cheese but felt it was out.

Sorry, should have explained that better, I didn't mean it to sound so harsh. It was a differentiation between some friends who are are pescatarian, their DC are allowed to choose for themselves out of the house. So their DC will frequently pick up, for example, a sausage or a ham sandwich at a party through their own choice. I tried to explain to DD that she couldn't just continually pick and choose when she wanted to be vegetarian like that as she was the one who had made the choice not her parents.

Obviously it wouldn't have been as cut and dried as all that if it had happened.

Believe me, the amount of label checking, supporting her stance to her grand parents, and finding alternatives, she has had my full support. And she has frequently told me how grateful she is for my support.

Tesco's have an own brand range of fizzy vegetarian haribo style sweets. They usually stock them in the big Tesco extra stores, especially if the town has a large asian / muslim population. 3 bags for £1 so cheap too !
