AIBU to reject the laziness culture

TAAT... sorry. Actually thread about two threads, one FB post and many other things recently.

'Lazy' seems to be the ultimate insult to parents, mothers in particular. Drive to school; lazy. Eat McDs; lazy. Don't knit your own tie-dye nappies, wash them in homemade, organic soap and line dry them; lazy.

AND?

A lot of us work, look after children, have aging parents, deal with SN (our own or others), volunteer, need to be there for friends, family and partners. A combination of these, different things and life in general. What is wrong with relaxing a little, or going easy on ourselves?

Here's to laziness. Wine

I have to take him in as he's only 17 months and it's too warm for my full length winter coat. So I got dressed in yesterday's clothes, fully intending to shower and change when I got back. Unfortunately when I got back I was overcome with a severe case of the fuck its so went back to bed instead.

Being lazy is my favourite hobby Grin Wine

I like and enjoy myself, I can amuse myself for hours/days given half the chance, with nothing of value to anyone else but me. Yes it's lazy to not scrub the skirting boards, but frankly what if I need to bust out 'we didn't start the fire' one day and I didn't know all the words by heart? Which incidentally led to a very long night wikipeding the events it refers to? You just don't know what life's got in store do you? My skirting boards may be scuffed but I'm impressive at a party/pub quiz (and didn't have to get off my fat arse).

LEMmingaround · 11/09/2014 20:42

WeirdCatLady · 11/09/2014 20:46

A-ha! Cat belongs to dd. Her job.

zeezeek · 11/09/2014 20:52

There are people who scrub skirting boards??? They need help.

Didn't know there was a story behind "we didn't start the fire"....going to have to Google it now instead of washing up and doing the packed lunches Grin

MrsVamos · 11/09/2014 20:54

You're supposed to scrub skirting boards ? Shock

toomuchtooold · 11/09/2014 21:19

We just had a week's holiday from work. Did we take the kids to look at sheep and freeze their arse in the west country? No. See the in laws? No. Take them round improving exhibitions in London? Guess what no. We took them to nursery for their normal 3 days a week then buggered off into London to have naice lunch and go to a spa and things like that.

ouryve · 11/09/2014 21:21

I'm so into the laziness thing, this evening, that I've sent DH upstairs to fetch some wine from the wardrobe that's so cold and damp we use it as a cellar.Wine

Trills · 11/09/2014 21:22

I'm so lazy I declined to have kids, so I can be lazy more effectively.

Cornettoninja · 11/09/2014 21:42

zeezeek don't get too excited, I meant actually looking up the events that he reels off during the song.

I love time wasting surfing Wikipedia, it's basically high brow intellectual laziness. Grin

pointythings · 11/09/2014 21:42

I'm so lazy I did have kids, so they can sort out the laundry, cook meals, help pack the shopping away... The list goes on.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 11/09/2014 21:46

I'm all for laziness, unless it is something which results in really inconveniencing others (or worse) and leads to a lot of extra hard work for other people too. especially when I'm one of the others (because I'm lazy too!)

hamptoncourt · 11/09/2014 22:03

This book might help anyone who is struggling......

tethersend · 11/09/2014 22:08

I'm so lazy I can't even be bothered to finish typing this p

toomuchtooold · 11/09/2014 22:24

When I had my twins I came up with all sorts of little time-saving strategies (e.g. night feeds, put the cots side by side and bottle feed them simultaneously while they are lying down). I thought about writing a book about it, the lazy sod's guide to raising twins. But I couldn't be bothered.

The history of human progress has been lazy people finding more efficient ways of doing things

MrsMook · 11/09/2014 23:02

I like to call it efficient.

I drove the DCs from their nursery, and gave them a chippie tea. That's what happens when you fit in a job, a commute that should have taken 17 minutes but took an hour because a road was blocked and I had to go via a town in the opposite direction, then rush straight to cubs. No way am I cooking at 8pm for a bunch of ravenous monsters. They've had their protein, cards and veg. Definitely efficient and not lazy.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/09/2014 00:17

The history of human progress has been lazy people finding more efficient ways of doing things More improving quotes for my kitchen wall. If I could be arsed. Which I can't.

Thanks all, you've really cheered me up.

Wine from the cold, dark cupboard.
