To think this isn't good enough (shoe related)

Or am I a total fool?

DD's brand new (stupidly) expensive birthday shoes from her GP's. Bought from a local independent shoe retailer. She has worn them once today to pre school and they have a big scrape.

Do I take them back, or is it my own damn fault for letting a 4 year old have patent shoes? TBH I could live with the scuff if the leather underneath was the same bloody colour but white....

And btw - I bought dd a pair of red mary jane style shoes for school for £20 odd quid from Next, and despite some pretty rough treatment, they look better and less scuffed than those in your picture, after weeks of daily use now.
Do complain.

YakInAMac · 12/09/2014 08:37

YY, it does look as if it has actually peeled off, which shouldn't be the case with shoes advertised as patent. It looks like a sort of stick on laminate layer. Is the top even leather? If not maybe they shouldn't be advertising them as general shoes.

ediblewoman · 15/09/2014 10:55

Well, took them in today. Manager not there so left the shoes there and he will call me tomorrow.

Actually, I think regardless of whether these are "party" or "every day" shoes, they should not look like that after one wear.

Yes 4 year olds will bash their shoes about a bit but surely the shoe manufacturers are aware of this and should make them tough enough to withstand a bit of, well, wearing?

I think you were right to take them back OP.

furcoatbigknickers · 15/09/2014 11:13

How much were they op? I didnt know what bo belks were and googled, have some very cheap on amazon

furcoatbigknickers · 15/09/2014 11:19

I think its worth a go too. However, i think they'll say its wear and tear

Ididntseeitsoitdidnthappen · 15/09/2014 11:24

That's a manufacturing fault and those shoes are not fit for purpose. I'd definitely take them back So hope you get it resolved OP

5madthings · 15/09/2014 11:28

That's not good. I get my kids shoes from an independent shoe shop, they are expensive but they last!

My kids are rough on their shoes but I wouldn't be happy with that after wearing them once!

Yes kids scuff Shoes but they should last longer than that!

ElephantsNeverForgive · 15/09/2014 11:28

I agree patent ones are usually better than non patent for scuffing.

Those look like they are just painted purple. Worth a moan, although you probably won't get anywhere with a small shop.

Debenham's were lovely about the swimming costume I clearly washed too hot (actually washer broke), so you never know.

5madthings · 15/09/2014 11:34

Actually if she wants 'party' style shoes I just got my dd some silver Mary Jane style ones from m&s, they were in the sale for £12!! Bargain and she has worn them solidly for a week, including scootering, riding her balance bike and going to toddlers and pre school and they still look New. The pic is her and ds4 dressed up for a wedding anniversary party we had to go to, that's why I bought the Shoes.

M&s had a few nice ones they are walkright? Or something, decent leather shoes at a nice price.

They were embarrassingly expensive, well I think so as I am normally a last years Clarks or Startrite from a discount place kind of shoe shopper. They were £45! Arghhhh..... Fingers crossed. Honestly I would never normally spend that much, but they were a gift so....

Ahh 5madthings your dcs are lovely. Nice shoes!

ginnybag · 15/09/2014 16:48

That's only one wear??? God, they look like she's had them on her feet for weeks! It's not just the toe scrape, it's all the creasing and the straps and inside look worn as well.

I have my DD - also 4 - school shoes from last term still kicking about. £20 M&S, worn all day, every day for three months and they're in better state than that!

I'd definitely complain!!

Crinkle77 · 15/09/2014 18:10

Take them back. They should not scuff like this after being worn once. If they were cheap shoes then I might expect it but not if they are good quality. I have taken shoes back for myself when they started peeling after a few weeks. Shoes should last longer than that.

ediblewoman · 16/09/2014 15:33

Well he was fab, agreed it was no good and will replace! Yipee
