To pretend I like my new hair......

Gone from Blonde to coppery brown today and it looks a bit like I'm wearing a wig at the moment!

I wanted to do it but DH wasn't keen and now I think, yep, he was probably right.

Shall I pretend I really love it, you know, fake it till you make it kind of thing?

I'm on a diet and I wanted to treat myself and have a sexy new persona

Maybe it'll grow on me.......

VulvaVoom · 11/09/2014 13:54

It probably only looks like a wig to you because it's so different. You'll soon get used to it.

cherrybombxo · 11/09/2014 14:02

I went from dark brown to white blonde in one sitting (I don't recommend, but that's another issue!) and I felt like I was wearing a wig for weeks. Give it some time, don't do anything drastic!

FrootLoopy · 11/09/2014 14:02

Don't coppery colours fade quite a bit the first few washes? I'd be using an intensive shampoo and fading it a bit, and then it might be closer to what you were hoping it would look like.

That and getting used to it, it does take time to adjust to it when a different you looks back at you from the mirror.

AFingerofFudge · 11/09/2014 14:03

If it's any comfort to you I have just come home after having my hair cut and I look like I'm wearing a helmet. I asked her to tidy it up and use the hair straighteners but by god she has straightened the life out of it and it looks all wrong.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 11/09/2014 14:04

Definitely give it some time, it takes a while to adjust and to modify your makeup, if you wear any that is.

But I wouldn't lie, just say if you can't get used to it and see what can be done next time.

FWIW I had my colour changed recently, went from highlights to a tint. Next appointment I went back to highlights because I hadn't adjusted and taken to the new look.

cherrybombxo · 11/09/2014 14:06

Oh yeah, as above, you can fade it with strong shampoo. Vosene original or Head and Shoulders both fade dye.

AFingerofFudge · 11/09/2014 14:07

Sorry I posted too soon..... I got home and my neighbour saw me and said she liked it. I immediately said...not I'm not happy, I don't like it... to which she said "yeah it is a bit funny isn't it"
So my message to you..... only be prepared to say you don't like it if you can stand people agreeing with you and saying they don't either! I was kind of hoping for reassuring words!!

TheCraicDealer · 11/09/2014 14:09

When you go for a drastic colour change it's easy to freak and reach for the bleach, but give it 72hrs and then think about it. Those colour B4 things aren't great for the condition of your hair at the best of times, and after colouring it blonde for years this is probably the last thing it needs!

If you still hate it on Sunday make an appointment for the following week and lift it up a few shades.

VulvaVoom · 11/09/2014 14:13

Finger, your neighbour isn't very diplomatic! But thanks for the advice. DH will hate it.

Confused at neighbour Hmm

To tone down the red, wash withVO hair conditioner in a tube, or other lanolin based lotion. It will help, and leave your hair very soft. I once dyed my hair very red for a Hermione Grainger costume contest. This really helped remove "washout in six washes" color that wouldn't budge.

SaucyJack · 11/09/2014 18:18

?? Hermione didn't have red hair.
