Bed wetting pre-schooler

Mosschopz · 11/09/2014 06:52

DS (nearly four) has been dry at night for four weeks, but since starting nursery school (which he loves and has settled in to really well) last week has started wetting the bed nearly every night. DH makes him do a wee about 12pm but sometimes he's wet then or he wets sometime between then and 7am.

DH is now suggesting I lift him a second time that night to avoid a wet bed. AIBU to think that a) the poor lad is knackered enough after a day at school to be up and down all night, and b) he'll start seeing it as being the norm to get up. I know this stage is hormonal, not a training thing, are we better off back in nappies?

He's probably sleeping more deeply or something. I wouldn't bother lifting (it trains them to wee at that time and while still asleep). As he's so young I'd go back to nappies/pull ups at night if he's ok with that, otherwise I'd put a waterproof pad down and make sure the duvet has a waterproof cover.

Lifting is counter productive and not advised! Look at the website of charity Eric - which is all about child incontinence. As you say you will be training him to get up not to be dry: it's different hormones involved that make you dry at night.

Get some Drynites bedtime pyjama pants and hive him a break!

Good luck

He is not ready yet. You've just been lucky with your timing
Just put him back in nappies and let him sleep.
Lifting him once let alone twice will affect his level of sleep and affect him during the day
When he's had a week of being dry without lifting them he's ready

Four is still so little, my DS IS 4.8 and no where near been dry - there's enough going in in their little lives with nursery / reception.

Get some dry nites & see how he goes

Ds3 was a couple of weeks from his 7th birthday before he was dry at night. He just wore pyjama pants and it wasn't a problem. He has never been wet since. Ever.

I'd go back to pull-ups, DS2 is 4.5 and was pretty much dry (but still wearing pull-ups) until he started school last week. Now they're wet every night! He's so shattered from school he just doesn't wake up

I would put him back in nappies as he is still very young. Just let him get some rest and he will become dry when he is ready. My DS2 is nearly 6 and still in nappies at night.

I would put him back in nappies too....

He is really tired and so they sleep more deeply and for some that means they don't wake.....

DS1 did this for years when he was over tired or if he was coming down with something...

DS2 (nearly 4) has been pretty much dry all summer although I have left the nappies on and don't lift, but now he is in pre-school 5 days a week he is often wet in the morning...

Once his body is used to the more tiring days he will settle down again.
