There was one of those the bath this morning.

I bravely tried to wash it down the plug hole but to no avail. The bugger was hiding and crawled out afterwards!

I had to get DH to get rid of it for me.

BlackeyedSusan · 10/09/2014 19:02

offs it was obvious it was going to be a spider.. for what other reason would you be burning the house down in september?

deakymom · 10/09/2014 19:04

handing you the matches

or

pour shampoo on it rinse down the plughole follow with more soap and put the plug in (i have been known to actually block the little holes on the bath in case they wont take a hint and try to return)

apparently lemon pledge around the pluhole makes them not come back up personally i sprayed it down too to turn it into a slippery slope!

BlackeyedSusan · 10/09/2014 19:06

oh and some bugger at school has been talking to them aout God's creatures and ds has developed a conscience and likes the damn things... I found that if you squash them carefully, they die but still look alive enough to convince ds that I have not killed it.

theDudesmummy · 10/09/2014 19:07

You need a spider catcher, I have an extra long one as i am very very arachnophobic but do not kill anything if I can possibly help it. If there is absolutely no-one else around I am forced to use it.

londonrach settings > general > keyboard > auto correction - off!

TheCunnyFunt · 10/09/2014 19:09

In answer to the OP, yes. Burn the house down, right to the ground. It's the only reasonable thing to do.

OverAndAbove · 10/09/2014 19:09

Fire is the only answer, in this instance. YWNBU!

RobotLover68 · 10/09/2014 19:11

I'm hyperventilating just looking at the picture - my dd has to deal with ours

TheBloodManCometh · 10/09/2014 22:44

I've sprayed him with TRESemmé. He didn't die but now his hair looks great!

This is our second massive one in a week. What is going on?!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 10/09/2014 22:50

YANBU.

Obviously!

They're whoppers this year.

To the poster who asked why there's so many about.... They're always more active in May and September. September is definitely the males looking for a mate. Not sure about May.

Catsmamma · 10/09/2014 22:57

i had to drive 14 miles with one running about the car....

it settled on the passenger flippy windscreen thing as i left "the city limits" so I drove home the whole way with my window open in the hope that the whirling turbulence would persuade it to keep over its own side, and flew out of the car as soon as I got home to get dh to remove it.

and btw....how bright is it to try and spin a web INSIDE a fiat panda? ...not exactly going to catch much.

Ledkr · 10/09/2014 22:57

I'm a nervous wreck at the mo cos they are so big. The very thought of one of those things near me makes me quiver!!

Ledkr · 10/09/2014 23:00

cats I had one in my car last year. I managed to stay calm enough to pull over and jump out of the car screaming with dd1 leaving dd2 bemused in her car seat.
I found it weeks later hunched over a bit of cereal bar on the floor.
He must have been starving!!

TheBloodManCometh · 10/09/2014 23:22

They make my skin crawl.

This one had things by its mouth.

OP posts:
londonrach · 13/09/2014 09:20

Thank you cunning x

extremepie · 13/09/2014 10:29

Yep, kill it with fire!

gatewalker · 13/09/2014 10:41

The things by its mouth are pedipalps, not fangs - they're used for mating. And the reason they're around right now is that August/September is mating season. This is a Tegenaria domestica - a giant house spider. Completely harmless, horny, and isn't interested in people, except to try and get away from them. I usually pick them up and deposit them elsewhere.
