Because I am not and I would like to be. How do you make the jump from "having put some makeup on and doing something with your hair and wearing a vaguely coordinating outfit" to "looking groomed and flawless"

I need some tips, people !

also although I know that this will have me flamed but

being thin is a big part of it. Skinny looks better than fat in most people's minds

this is for lots of reasons - some confidence and posture based but many to do with availability of decent and/or clothes for fatter women and because we don't see a lot of great fatter female stars models advertising etc to inform our consciousness that fat = chic

None of these things are definitive; they're just what work for you.

Flat hair absolutely can look the epitome of chic, while bouffant big hair can look desperately matronly.

Everything matching with this, that and the other can look great, or just way too try hard.

You don't need painted nails if you have elegant hands with pianist's fingers.

Statement necklaces can look amazing. Or terrible.

You don't have to only wear expensive, 'investment' pieces, and spend a load of money in salons.

Either you have it, or you don't, and one person's requisite list isn't going to work for the next person.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes

For example if you are sitting with one leg crossed over the other above the knee, tip the lower leg inwards till your calves are parallel and touching all the way down, far better than having one leg straight and the other sticking out sideways. Probably horrendous for your back, but does look better. Better still sit upright with both feet on the ground and touching from thigh to ankle

Just tried this - nearly fell off my chair.
Also, forgot to tke my nail varish off this morning - chipped to bits!
At least I have no meetings today Grin

Also, there's the practical aspect. It's fine saying that heels always look better than flats (which is subjective anyway) but I very rarely wear heels and am never going to change to wearing them regularly, my comfort and health are way more important than a small improvement in appearance.

I think that statement necklaces are OVER
also many many look shit and as though they are slung on an outfit after a go in a lucky dip tub on the way out a door

So true, they always look as if they are 'flung' on as an afterthough.
A lot of people look awkward wearing them.
Trouble is, a lot of fine jewellery is too small and can look dated, so it's a matter of finding something inbetween.

I remember when chokers were in fashion. You have to have a neck like a ballerina to carry off a choker.

heavy necklaces can make the neck look very thick.
