To wish my friend would stop using the phrase "frig me" all the time?

My friend constantly uses the phrase "frig me". For example if something bad has happened she'll say "frig me that's terrible!"

As I understood it frig means to masturbate and I find her constant usage of "frig me" vulgar.

I'm now giggling at Bob the builder song now.

When that song by Moloko called Sing it back was in the charts people used to sing frig my twat instead of the proper words. Such rebels.

TattyDevine · 10/09/2014 12:25

She's probably trying not to say "fuck"

Its still weird and sounds like a strange invite.

That's the way to stop it of course...go all Rolf Harris on her and she'll never say it again

(sorry bad taste)

bialystockandbloom · 10/09/2014 13:08

tortoise Really? I don't think that excuses DP though, I doubt he actually knows that, and think he just made it up. Also uses it in other contexts (eg "my accountant will frig the accounts") cos he's a frigging frigwit Wink

OP YANBU btw.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 10/09/2014 13:52

Frig is also the name of a Norse/Saxon Goddess.

3stripesandout · 10/09/2014 13:56

I use frig instead of fuck. Friggin hell, for frigs sake, will you frig off Blush

Veritata · 10/09/2014 14:00

Reminds me of the time a friend told me something that gobsmacked me, I said "Fuck me" and she replied "Yes, but not as much fun". Had me helpless with laughter for a good 5 minutes.

unlucky83 · 10/09/2014 14:06

My (politer) swear word of choice is bugger ...(with an occasional 'sod it' thrown in).... not sure if 'well bugger me' is better than frig or not?????

Ilovexmastime · 10/09/2014 14:27

Bugger me is much better than frig me imo, I'm with pp in that if I heard someone say frig me I would think of it literally, whereas bugger has been a mild swear word forever (hasn't it?!).

MrsWinnibago · 10/09/2014 14:29

Frigging is definitely masturbating.

Take the old Pogues' and their classic line...Frigging in the rigging....cos' there's fuck all else to do.

MrsWinnibago · 10/09/2014 14:30

I don't like saying bugger because it means anal sex! I say "Barnacles" and also "Shiver me timbers"

We're very piratical in this house.

Ilovexmastime · 10/09/2014 14:32

Do you say them with a pirate accent too MrsW?

Ilovexmastime · 10/09/2014 14:34

Think I'll start saying barnacles too, I love barnacles...

BeCool · 10/09/2014 14:51

"frigging in the rigging
frigging in the rigging
frigging in the rigging
cause there's fuck all else to do."

It is an old "bawdy sea shanty" .. aka Good Ship Venus.

The Sex Pistols recorded a version on the Great Rock n Roll Swindle

natwebb79 · 10/09/2014 14:51

My 90 year old nan says 'well bugger me!' when she's surprised. Can't say I've ever assumed she's meant it literally! Grin

feelingmellow · 10/09/2014 15:02

Ask her what frig means. If it's something you don't like justscrew your nose up and say 'ew, how horrible - please don't say it again'

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 10/09/2014 15:19

Does she know that it means fingering/masturbating?

Just thinking maybe she doesn't and just thinks it's a cute not-swear word. I didn't realise what twat really meant, and was using it quite freely until someone pointed out that it was slang for vagina and therefore maybe not appropriate for all occasions. It was mildly embarrassing but was glad to be told!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 10/09/2014 15:22

Had no idea that frig ever meant anything other than a slightly slang-y polite way of getting out of actually saying the word Fuck. I don't think it has the same connotations (masterbating, finger fucking, etc) where I grew up. But then shag means carpet there too Grin

AtlanticDrift · 10/09/2014 17:09

I had no idea it meant that. Are you sure? What about feck?

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 10/09/2014 17:13

I always figured feck was Irish for fuck. I may have got that from Father Ted though.
