So apparently Kelly Brook has a thing for punching her boyfriends

Kelly Brook was on This Morning today and was talking about her autobiography.

She totally flippantly talked about punching two of her ex boyfriends and Holly and Phil were sort of laughing about it with her. She also talked about her 'wild' parents and how they would get drunk and smash things up and that she has probably got her 'fiery' nature from them. It was all just so 'jolly' and jokey.

AIBU Tto think that if this was a bloke saying this they would be (rightly) crucified? Why is it seemingly ok for Kelly Brook to assault her partner and then boast about it on television and in her book?

Tittifilarious · 08/09/2014 22:08

I wondered that.

AlpacaPicnic · 08/09/2014 22:10

It's not ok.
She should be arrested for assault, the same as I would expect a man to be arrested for punching his spouse/partner.

The whole attitude is pretty disgusting.

redshifter · 08/09/2014 22:11

Yeah. It really sickened me when I saw it. Just totally fed up with this sort of shit.

Disgusting.

FreudiansSlipper · 08/09/2014 22:12

Is it ok

has anyone said it is ok for Kelly Brook to punch her boyfriends Hmm

though her boyfriends punching her would likely to cause far more harm not one is actually saying good on you Kelly

gets so tiresome if a man were to say this

because violent men do not say they punch their partners, they often punch them where you will not see the bruises

or they make excuses like well sometimes clever women make men hit them which sadly too many agree with

UrsulaBuffay · 08/09/2014 22:12

This might explain why she's always had such 'bad luck' with men

Eauneau · 08/09/2014 22:17

Freudian the fact that she was openly and jokingly talking about this on national television makes it seem that it is 'ok'.

Why is it tiresome? I am well aware that men are often the instigators of violence in relationships and the nature of that violence and this is not a 'what about the menz' post.

But men are deserving of respect as well.

OP posts:
SpringItOn · 08/09/2014 22:26

She made herself look like a complete idiot and won't have done her book sales any good. I couldn't believe how she spectacularly missed the point, 'it's not as if I could hurt them, they're all so much bigger than me'
Along those lines anyway.

FreudiansSlipper · 08/09/2014 22:31

Did you not see Dennis Waterman interview he justified hitting his ex partner

is there any support for KB horrible comment or her horrible actions

who said men are not deserving of respect

but the line if a man were to say this is tiresome

because it is not acceptable for a women to say it either yet we still at times excuse both men and women and far more often men as we see in our justice system

RonaldMcDonald · 08/09/2014 22:39

Kelly Brook is a well known fucking idiot

her happily twittering on about assaulting another human is simply another case in point
because she looks nice in a bikini doesn't mean anyone aspires to be her or condones her behaviour

this morning should have behaved better though
agree re Dennis Waterman commentary

Eauneau · 08/09/2014 22:42

Did you not see Dennis Waterman interview he justified hitting his ex partner

Yes I did, he is an arsehole and of course he was talking shit - but that was a completely different type of interview. It was all very serious, he wasn't giggling and boasting about it and blaming his parents 'kerazy' wild ways on his temper.

And he was widely criticised for what he said as well (although I know lots of people unfortunately are of the 'well if she provokes him then of course He is going to hit her' school of thought).

OP posts:
FreudiansSlipper · 08/09/2014 22:49

you think he took responsibility for his actions Hmm he made an excuse for what he did

has she had support for what she has said. she has been criticised and rightly so

kilmuir · 08/09/2014 22:52

She came across as a bit of a tit

Lally112 · 08/09/2014 22:57

I didn't see it but some relationships are like this without it actually being abuse. Passionate people can do stupid shit in the heat of an argument whether male or female but it doesn't always have to be the big red flagged dreaded abuse, sometimes its just an argument that got out of hand.

FreudiansSlipper · 08/09/2014 23:01

violence in a relationship is always wrong Lally

no healthy relationship does a partner act in a violent or threatening way to the other or to each other

it has nothing to do with passion and everything to do with control or/and fear of losing control

PenisesAreNotPink · 08/09/2014 23:02

She wasn't laughing at domestic violence, she was laughing embarassedly at all the terrible mistakes she's made in relationships

She was saying this on Radio 5 live today.

She basically said 'I've been a right twat, made some dreadful mistakes and acted in a way I shouldn't'

I admire her honesty without obviously condoning an open handed slap
across Jason Stathams face while he was flirting with someone in front of her - she was an idiot, she was brought up with violence and has only recently managed to conquer doing that.

RonaldMcDonald · 08/09/2014 23:05

she was laughing because she thinks that that will excuse anything she does as she is pretty, ha ha ha

i punched him in the face, ha ha ha
i punched him in the face, ha ha ha

ha ha ha
phewwww

PenisesAreNotPink · 08/09/2014 23:07

Gosh, you sound like you really dislike her Ronald Hmm

Lally112 · 08/09/2014 23:08

and in an argumentthings get heated, you can lose control, lob a plate or two, tell the other they are indeed a cunt, fuck off in the car for a bit, cool off and come back and sort it out. it doesn't always mean abuse.

backbystealth · 08/09/2014 23:08

Did you know she lived in a abusive situation when she was a child?

Her parents were pissheads who would have violent rows, her dad hit her mum. Police called many times. She witnessed it all.

We can all say 'yes which is why she should know better' but this is the horror of DV. It passes on powerful messages about what 'love' and 'relationships' are about, about how to manage stress and disagreement etc.

FreudiansSlipper · 08/09/2014 23:12

and Lally do you think that is what children should witness

while arguments can and often do get heated no one should ever feel fear and plates or fists should never be thrown and no one should act in a threatening way or be frightened

it is not passion has nothing to do with passion (though i have known ex's that will claim it is) it is behaviour that needs to be controlled and more often than not can be when someone really thinks about what they are doing

TheSameBoat · 08/09/2014 23:17

This is so interesting. Because under the video in youtube, the DM article (which condemns her) and in twitter, all the comments are criticising and most of them are along the lines of "if a man did this there would be an outrage so why is this ok?"

But doesn't the existence of so many people expressing outrage over the lack of outrage means that there ISN'T a lack of outrage and that this isn't considered ok?

RonaldMcDonald · 08/09/2014 23:18

she described her parents relationship as passionate....ffs

i don't dislike her
i just think that she is as thick as an actual brick

ohbladee · 08/09/2014 23:57

Very very stupid woman.

however · 09/09/2014 02:59

I don't see it as the same thing at all.

That doesn't mean I think what she said was funny or entertaining. Or even interesting.

NotNewButNameChanged · 09/09/2014 08:18

Philip Schofield was right to ask her about it but when she laughed it off, he smirked. That really pissed me off.

The fact that her ex-boyfriends are bigger than her and may have been chatting to another woman is irrelevant. She admitted to punching one of them in the face, let alone a slap.

In his shoes, I'd have gone to the police and had her arrested. I suspect no charges would have been brought but it might have given her a wake-up call to sort her behaviour out.
