I posted last week my contract is being ended 3 weeks early. I had applied for the perm not going to get it because of " someone" .
so today my line manager said I have to withdraw my application?
he said what do you want? I said a good reference. he said OK.
but aibu to be pissed of that I have to with draw my application to get this? apparently it makes them look bad if I dont

That doesn't sound right. It sounds like they couldn't possibly justify giving the job to "someone" if you applied. Nepotism possibly? Do you really have to withdraw?

Frontier · 08/09/2014 19:53

I don't understand what difference it make to them, or to you, if you withdraw the application?

"someone" is doing the interview. he hates me. I've not got the job. but being asked to withdraw greats me.

Go.... Interview experience is good even if you isn't get the post , there will be more than him there

Lambzig · 08/09/2014 21:27

I would refuse to withdraw. They need to deal with the situation professionally.

They've just admitted that the interview process is unfair: they shouldn't know the outcome before they take place!

This does sound fishy. Perhaps they want to give the job to a less qualified candidate and need to cover their behinds?

I am no expert so hopefully someone more qualified will be on soon, but if you could show that you are better qualified and were overlooked they could have a discrimination lawsuit on their hands. If you withdrew, on the other hand they would be just fine.

Just reread your OP, I really think this is about more than them 'looking bad', it is about not exposing themselves to any legal trouble. Very poor behaviour on their part.
