to think that the Yes campaign should be

Slightly ashamed of the vandalism of the No campaign's billboards and signs .
I travel across Scotland and beside motorways I have seen lots of the No signs damaged, spray painted, holes kicked out them etc and to be honest it's putting me right off. I think showing such a lack of respect for the opposite side is saddening I haven't seen any damage in reverse.
I haven't made my mind up yet but I'm slightly concerned about the bullying aspect.

Bullying in general or against you?

pinkr · 08/09/2014 19:04

Sorry I mean in general
I just haven't seen the same in reverse and I worry about the effects for the future of our ccountry
I'm swayingYes but this is slightly pouring me off

Of course the individual people who did that should be ashamed of themselves. Likewise the people who have firebombed Yes shops in Glasgow and smeared excrement all over them should be ashamed of themselves too.

There are arseholes on both sides.

pinkr · 08/09/2014 19:39

Ooh I hadn't heard of that we're quite rural but I felt a lot of effort had been put into it. Over a distance of two hundred miles it can't all be the same person though

There are shenanigans like this being conducted on both sides. As Run says, arseholes all over the place not just on the Yes side.

JennyPiccolo · 08/09/2014 20:12

I think you're underestimating the size of the yes campaign really. Folk were taking down yes posters and posting it on twitter, i'd hardly expect law abiding no supporters to feel ashamed about it.

Loveneverfails · 08/09/2014 20:42

im thinking the same OP

Loveneverfails · 08/09/2014 20:43

but round my way too you ONLY see the VOTE NO billboards damaged :(

JennyPiccolo · 08/09/2014 20:50

Maybe because Yes have a bajillion volunteers replacing stuff?

Thefishewife · 08/09/2014 20:51

My husband is irish and thinks it's gonna kick of big style in NI if scotalnd vote yes

KissMyFatArse · 08/09/2014 20:57

The yes shops have been vandalised during the night in some areas. I'm a YES but think both sides needn't resort to that sort of underhand rubbish x

Loveneverfails · 08/09/2014 21:04

defo both sides need to have some respect.

Tinkerball · 08/09/2014 21:05

I hope you are equally concerned about the behaviour from certain No supporters to such as the woman who threw a chair narrowly missing a child.

WildThong · 08/09/2014 21:09

Tit for tat on this thread.
Firebombing shops - is that the one where a wheelie bin was set on fire next to a shop?

JennyPiccolo · 08/09/2014 21:18

I've been out canvassing for yes and any sort of vandalism/freedom of speech violation/sticking stickers in inappropriate places is very much frowned upon.

GirlsWhoWearGlasses · 08/09/2014 21:42

I agree with you OP. I know some people on here have said it's got for tat, but it's only No stuff that I've seen vandalised. I know there are lots of Yes people voting that way for good reasons, but there does also seem to be this bullying, slightly scary underbelly that makes me really nervous about how we'd be as a nation if Scotland did vote Yes.

GirlsWhoWearGlasses · 08/09/2014 21:43

TIT for tat - whoops!

TreeMugger · 08/09/2014 21:57

I've only seen one bit of vandalism and it made me laugh tbh. It was a No sign that someone had written on so it now says "How No?" You're right that people shouldn't be destroying other peoples stuff. Everyone I know that is actually a part of the Yes campaign are very respectful of other's opinions so I'd be surprised if the vandals are actually campaigners rather than supporters.

Brightbutchilly · 08/09/2014 22:01

You are absolutely right no one should be vandalising anyone else's signs, on either side.

Bear in mind though it's not representative of the campaigns on either side. There are disrespectful ejits in both camps.

It's not a good basis on which to decide your vote.

ADishBestEatenCold · 08/09/2014 22:54

"Maybe because Yes have a bajillion volunteers replacing stuff?"

Quite! I have had a massive YES billboard (on an open hillside on my land) destroyed twice now ... both times I quietly replaced it (okay, maybe I muttered and hmmmed about vandals a bit ... but I was mostly quiet).

Perhaps I should have left it up there in it's destroyed state and then pinkr might have seen it and realised this was happening to YES billboards, too.

It just didn't occur to me not to replace it ... that leaving it would get me 'sympathy'!!!

pinkr · 09/09/2014 21:46

Thanks for the replies I am still giving it all much thought. I genuinely didn't know it was on both sides so good to find out
