I may be being PFB, baby girl is five days old, I am feeling run down and have beginnings of cold/sore throat. MIL called to arrange visit tomorrow and mentioned she also has a sore throat-WIBU to ask her not to come? Would love her to visit tbh as she is bringing food and will be cleaning!

If you've already got a sore throat, will it really make any difference to baby whether your MIL has one as well?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 08/09/2014 18:31

As you are under the weather anyways I dont know what difference her also having a sore throat makes.

TryingNotToLaugh · 08/09/2014 18:31

Your baby will be fine, especially if you're breast feeding. You might catch it though.

I would risk it for the cake and the cleaning, but I am quite slack about germs.

TryingNotToLaugh · 08/09/2014 18:32

Just realised you have a sore throat already!

Nothing to lose here, bring on the cake.

MyFairyKing · 08/09/2014 18:35

Nah, I think risking it would be ok. Enjoy the cake and baby! Congrats. Flowers

Oh good, that's what I was hoping people would say!

I wouldn't risk it. Our DD got a cold off DH at six weeks and it was horrible flushing her nose. Baby will be protected against your cold by breastfeeding milk.

LittlePeaPod · 08/09/2014 19:13

She's your PFB you are tired and protective. No not unreasonable. Do what you feel most comfortable and happy with. Thanks

Mangobubbles · 08/09/2014 19:26

I wouldn't do it! I don't want to freak you out but my son got a cold from a visitor at 2 weeks old which turned into severe bronchiolitis and he was in hospital for a week. It was horrendous and it took months for him to recover. I know this is rare and it probably wouldn't happen to you but he was bf and my milk didn't protect him. If you are already feeling ill then I wouldn't expose your baby to any more germs. Sorry to sound dramatic but the whole if his first year was awful and I always think I should have prevented it. I wouldn't want you to experience the same thing.

maddy68 · 08/09/2014 19:28

I would allow her near her with a sore throat. You also have one. I do think you are bring a bit pfb sorry

fflonkl · 08/09/2014 20:31

I wouldn't risk it tbh, would you really want your 5 day old baby catch a cold? I've had to do nasal flushing when DD was about 6 weeks old - humongous bogies rather than mucus - but it was a right pain and really quite scary to hear all the wheezing!

tazzle22 · 08/09/2014 20:50

I could be that MIL !!!

but I am not yours lol

My DD had a gorgeous son two weeks ago at which point I had had a sore throat /cough for a month on and off. Much tho it pained be not to be able go see him there is no way that I could expose him to this virus and maybe concurrent bacterial infection even when it seemed to be easing off.

Good job I didn't ... I still have the cough and its a stinker !!!! I could never have forgiven myself if the little chap experienced what I have the last 6 weeks... hacking cough so bad can hardly get any sleep. Having nurses babys with bronchiolitis I would bever wish it on any baby :-(

Maybe SS it might just be MIL has a mild sore throat that will resolve in a few days.... but it might be more than that and your milk / antibodies be effective re yourbugs but not MIL.

As someone who thinks there is a lot of PFB ish ness going around..... on this occasion I think you are being sensible. I would ask DMIL to either come and not cuddle or cough on DD ...or stay away till better.

HSMMaCM · 08/09/2014 21:04

I wouldn't expose a tiny baby to any unnecessary germs. DD was blue lighted with breathing problems at 6 days old and I wouldn't wish that on anybody.
