(This will 'out' me to anyone who knows me but Meh!)

Didn't think to check DS's (5) shoes this morning (checked the rest of his uniform) and have just had a phonecall from the school to say he's gone in in his trainers!! Apparently he stood up to do something, noticed and burst in to tears! :( The school said that it wasn't a problem but could I make it in with the school shoes? When I said yes but it would take me about an hour they then said not to worry bringing them as it really is not a problem for a one off and they'd say I was busy and reassure him. I'm not 'busy' but it takes me about 3/4 hour to walk there plus 10 mins or so to get properly dressed (as in not 'school bus drop off clothes') - I now feel really guilty about saying ok to not going in as my boy is obviously upset... I did tell the school to phone me again if he's still upset and I would come in, but should I go in anyway?

I don't think it'd hurt to go in - pop his school shoes over to him, give him a quick kiss and a cuddle, and take his trainers back with you. That being said, I don't think you'd be U for not doing if you're really busy - after all, the school have said it's fine.

So, NU either way!

MrsCosmopilite · 08/09/2014 10:29

If the school have said it's okay, then leave it.

Whether he's wearing shoes, trainers, barefoot or ugg boots he's still going to be receiving and participating in the same educational experience :)

Aged 5 he's probably not going to care about it in an hour IMO, I'd not bother myself, he'll be fine DramaQueen Smile

Your user name is very apt.

DramaQueenofHighCs · 08/09/2014 10:56

Thanks ladies.
I'll probably 'wait it out' as the school are pretty good and I know they would phone me if there was a problem. While I'm not busy as such there are things I need to be doing and a [near enough] 2 hour round trip to drop off his shoes and then the 1 hour walk to school later in the day to pick him up and then a 1/2 hour walk to town and either 2 hour wait for DH or bus home would mean I'd be very hard pushed to get everything done. (DS usually takes school bus but has an after school club today - I don't want to spend £6 plus on a taxi every week, hence the walk to town, though if he seems really tired I'll phone one.)

I try to get DS to be independent getting himself ready for school and I'm kicking myself as I checked his school bag (we do his water etc for him but he puts his book bag in himself), checked his high viz jacket for the bus, checked his trousers, socks, shirt and jumper but didn't think to check his shoes as he walked out the door! DOH!

I think an offer of 'tea in town' and a treat when I pick him up might help.

He'll be fine :) What's more, he wont do it again - win/win Grin

You can't be doing that trip for minor bits and bobs all the time, so the sooner he 'gets' that, the better really.

lickandstick · 08/09/2014 11:31

was just thinking the same saucyjack :)

ikeaismylocal · 08/09/2014 11:38

I don't understand why he can't wear trainers to school, surely they would be better for running around the playground in than "school shoes".

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 08/09/2014 22:02

ikea because they have to wear school uniform here and the shoes are part of that.

feathermucker · 08/09/2014 22:34

Christ, if that's the worst thing you do, you're doing fine Grin

BreadForBrains · 08/09/2014 22:44

My rule here is if you've forgotten it, I'm not traipsing home to collect it and drop it back for you.
Seems horrible I'm sure, especially as I'm a sahm and live a 10 minute walk or a 2 minute drive doesn't it?!
My job is to encourage them to think for themselves - I'm not prepared to be running up and down to school for them every five minutes. In a combined 10 years of schooling so far, there have been 2 forgotten lunchboxes and 1 PE kit.
You have to be cruel to be kind!
He still had footwear on and hopefully wasnt too worried about it when you picked him up.
Give yourself a break, it could have been much worse!
